First meeting with Diabetes Nurse.

HI. Like everyone else here I would suggest you note the experience of a wide range of people on this forum who have lived with it and through it and know that 180g/day plus snacks is probably too much. The real point is that your nurse and the NHS can point to no sound evidence that diabetics should have carbs with every meal and at that level whereas there is lots of 'evidence' on this forum that carbs are a problem. As the NHS is supposed to profer evidence-based medicine I am at a loss to understand the 'plenty of carbs' advice. It's your choice....

Didie, I am impressed with your HbA1c's

I am not switching from my success with carb counting and feel ready to try for 60-80g now, instead of 80-100g

The funny thing was, my DH was in the surgery with me and she recommended the same diet for him. With the same quantities of carbs and calories etc.

But DH is 6'7" tall and built like a brick outhouse and a cabinet maker, and I am 5'2" tall. Truly a 'one size fits all' diet :lolno:

I had similar diet advice when I was diagnosed 12 years ago. I too was told diabs is progressing. I followed the advice - I did not consult this forum until 4 years ago, when I had proved the truth of the progressive condition - with chronic tiredness, disabling muscle pain & the beginning of retinopathy.

I came to this forum, cut the carbs, & in 3 months I was well again - & still am. That dietitian has changed her advice because of me, but still thinks 130 g carbs daily is the minimum. I don't think ANY forum contributor has suffered long term effects from a low carb diet.
