I try and have fish at least twice a week, and have noticed that I get a fasting b.g well below 6. this morning it was 5.3, I was well pleased, and checking back it seems this way the next morning after I have had fish, is there a reason for this?

trand,

Unless battered or in breadcrumbs fish contains zero carbs.

hi trand,
i get the same when i have salmon,
just be careful what you have it with
:)

the other good news is that oily fish (salmon, trout, sardines, mackerel, fresh tuna) is good for you in lots of ways. Reduces the risk of heart disease for example.

I love mackerel. You may even have inspired me as to what to have for my tea!

Me too Snoger! I always opt for the peppered mackerel and bake it in the oven in tinfoil with some garlic cloves sprinkled over the top.............delicious and nutritious!!! :D

Not so good if you have Gout

I still love it

diet that is high in purines
certain foods, such as red meat and seafood oily fish

Ref http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Gout/Pages/Causes.aspx

Medical conditions that can increase your risk of developing gout include:

* psoriasis, a condition that causes skin cells to reproduce too quickly, leading to red, flaky and crusty skin
* high blood pressure (hypertension)
* diabetes
* reduced kidney function, for example after a kidney transplant or if you have kidney failure
* hyperlipidaemia, high fat and cholesterol levels in your blood
* vascular disease, when your arteries become thickened, narrowed or blocked

I was told when Uric acid levels are high
needle like crystals then form in your joints normally in your foot
most common place for 1st attack Big Toe Very Pain full

I have a friend who has gout and unfortunately is allergic the the gout medication, not a good place to be I understand.

I know oily fish is good for everyone especially us diabetics, the small problem I have is I don't like mackerel, sardines, trout etc. Shame as I love tinned tuna but my dietician tells me all the good stuff has been removed from the processed kind

Cherry juice is supposed to be good for gout. Not so good for diabetics though :( I have a fish stew recipe that lowers my bg when I eat it! Got to love that :D

gout
anyone having gout pain
my pal has gout
the doc gave him allopurinal
he has no probs or pain now
he takes one a day
hope this helps someone

i can only eat fish if all bones are taken out beforehand as when eating fish and get a bone i can't eat it and go off fish for months so i am really picky ( i know i'm weird but can't help it) i only eat salmon which i painstakingly filter all the bones out of (yes i know they are soft and edible but can't stomach it) or filleted cod again i still break it to pieces before i can eat it.
probably some obsessive disorder

I don't think its obsessive at all. I do exactly the same :)

I don't suppose you eat anchovies either - I certainly don't. :) Can't take the bones out of them at all although I did try once...

Lister: if you'd like me to remove this I will... :)

Wow  :!: Didn't half give me a shock when I scrolled it up :!:
Lot of meat on there
Am against fin soup - even though that is a dreadful looking creature with horrific teeth I don't like to hear of fish which die in agony through drowning after having their fins cut off and being thrown back in the water and dying slowly

Makes my little fishy picture pale into insignificance  :!:
Don't think I fancy going swimming just now....

We are fortunate enough to have a fish merchant only a short distance away who supplies a lot of local shops and restaurants but also sells to the general public, all his fish is freshly caught and the texture and quality is much better than what you find in some supermarkets.

Trying for a Monday smile :? Seems to have backfired :(
I like mother in-law Jokes , doesn't mean im going to eat her
Far too boney

Not going to justify the fishing for fins only the trade is sickening, with sharks finned alive, then thrown back into the sea to die slowly.
At least 21 species of shark swimming around uk waters
Sharks have no bones their skeleton is made of cartilage

Uk lands vast quantity's of fish thats is thrown back Dead (bycatch)
not in season or under size ,wrong spices inc dolphin and shark :?
Most commercially caught fish will drown , in nets or frozen live ,filleted live
deep fish the swim bladder with burst when pulled up

So where do we draw the line :?:

Do you like Rock Salmon ,Huss (Dog Fish) ? its shark
Monk fish and Conger have one large single bone easy to remove
