Type 2 Fitness Pain

I've just been diagnosed with Type 2 and apart from changing my diet and taking medication I've also started to 'get fit'. I've read all the stuff about not going at it too fast and not overloading your body but my question is exactly howshould I feel a week after doing what I think is a fair series of workouts. I'm not overweight, but I also haven't kept myself in shape for a number of years, so I have to build up my muscles. I have done 2 x 0.5 mile brisk walks for 2 days, plus a session on a rowing machine. I've also done 2 light swimming sessions.
The good thing is that the sessions have reduced my blood sugar levels to about 6-7 mmol, but my whole body hurts all the time. Not surprising because I am NOT fit at all, and I expect some pain. How long should I expect this pain to continue, and should I let the pain subside before restarting the exercises.
(Currently on Metformin and Statins)

Hi Philip,
Regarding your pain, did you start statins at the same time as you started your exercise regime? I ask because statins can cause body pains without any exercise.

If you are new to exercising then I'd say around 6 weeks!!! Seriously, a week is nothing. Well done for starting it of course but it sounds as if you have launched straight into it instead of going slowly. This is only my opinion but you should probably rest between bouts of extreme exercise (to rest the body & muscles given you're a newbie) and then plough on. x

It took me a few weeks to settle out of the aching thing. But now 6 months on I do 4 or 5 work outs a week and very little issues the next day unless I really push

Thank you for your replies - I initially started cycling, which got me out and about but didn't seem to do much for my muscles, so I then started swimming and going to the gym. I started the Statins before going to the gym but after the cycling. Not very scientific I'm afraid so I can't pin-point the cause of the pains.
If the Statins are the cause of the pains I presume all will sort itself out over time?
If it takes 6 weeks for me to rid myself of these pains (caused by the exercise) then that's fine with me, as long as what's happening to me is normal and expected. Its thoroughly uncomfortable because the pains are non-stop, although Deep Heat and baths do help; but there's no point in stopping exercising just to stop the pains, after all I am where I am because of my lack of exercise, and there's only one way to beat this Diabetes, and that's to fight it. I've got my numbers down from 23mmol to 7mmol and so I know I'm winning. You're absolutely right about resting as well, but its finding the right amount of exercise, and finding the right amount of rest.

The other thing you may want to consider is stretching. It may not seem necessary if your doing light exercise, but it really helps. After every work out i spend just <5 mins doing some key stretches and it really helps keep the aching down.

Even after a swim i stretch off my arms, shoulders, back, hips, upper and lower legs. (I do much of it in the pool before i get out)

Stretching isn't about flexibility as such, it helps relax your tendons and muscles which improves recovery and can reduce the next day soreness.

If you have particular areas that hurt more often then stretch before and after. Like for me i always stretch my arms, shoulders and back prior and after because if i dont i ache a bit more.

If you need some help with what stretches to do let me know and i can post some things but if you google there are some good you tube tutorials on basic stretches.
