Flu Jabs 2021/22

Just got a text from my local surgery and booked my flu jab for Saturday, it seems a shortage of vaccine doesn't apply here.
Although it is being given at the same centre as the Covid jabs they are not waiting to give a booster and flu jab at the same time.
 
Mines booked, but 8 weeks away yet. Fingers crossed they have some them
 
Got an alert to book flu jabs for both of us but when tried to arrange they said due to shortage they couldn't book until further notice.

When I had my 2021 / 22 flue shot in May it was around the four week mark from my first covid shot in April. My next covid shot was about four to five weeks later..
 
I usually book mine at a pharmacy, but I'm wondering whether it's worth booking yet :nailbiting: My GPs don't usually start doing them until late November.

There was talk in the UK of giving a third, booster jab for Covid with the standard autumn flu jab, just because it would be quicker to do it at the same time. However they are still deciding about the booster jab so it seems they are proceeding with the flu jabs anyway.

Our federal government are still trying to get enough vaccines into the people for the first jab still.

Australia did a deal with the UK government, and got 500000 doses of Pfizer which are getting close to there use by date, we repay the favour later on this year, similar deal done with Singapore for about the same amount of the same flavour.

I better mention the flushot as I will be off topic, plenty of that available here, as I said I had mine with no ill effects.
 
My neighbour works on the flu vaccine rollout every year. She doesn't have her jab until late November/December. her rationale is that ensures she achieves peak protection during peak flu season.

She may be right or wrong, but I can see where she might be coming from.

Hmm, does anyone take the flu vaccine in Spring? Like you, I had mine in May, with a warning that I should wait two weeks for the covid jab. (Since I didn't get access to that until July , was just as well I didn't wait....) They did have shortages of flu vaccine for a while this year in NZ, but it just meant a month's delay for me.

In Singapore, we have two flu seasons, I usually just get vaccinated when the northern hemisphere season starts. I may get one next spring though
 
Got a text from my pharmacy last week, got the jab yesterday - no appointment required. The question is what is the ‘safe’ gap between the flu jab and the upcoming booster for Covid?

They are intending to do them both at the same time when they get organised, probably in different arms, so no gap necessary.

I don't do too well with more than one injection at time. I tend to faint, so I am glad my GP gave me my flu jab this week during an appointment for something else.
 
The latest I heard is that in the UK we will get the third Covid booster jab no sooner than 6 months after our second one. They have just started giving third jabs to hospital staff who were likely at the front of the queue when it all started. Our flu jab appointments were arranged for tomorrow and then cancelled due to shortage of supply so we are waiting for another appointment.
 
From BBC News today.....
Prof Adam Finn, a member of the JCVI, says the first people to get Covid booster and flu jabs are "overlapping but not identical groups" so the rollout is “logistically very challenging”.

He says: "We’ve done a study... which shows quite clearly if you give people both of these vaccines at the same time, one in each arm, the immune responses to both of them are fine and not affected and the rate of side effects - headaches fever and so on - are pretty much the same as if you give one vaccine.

"It could be difficult always to organise people getting both vaccines at the same time but whenever it’s possible it will be done that way."

Hubby had his flu jab done during an appointment for an ECG today too. So I have cancelled the ones I booked at Boots for next week.

Heard that too. The practical reason being that small venues would get overcrowded quickly with covid jabsers having to wait 15 minutes thus really slowing down the throughput of those who just need the flu one.
Sounds like it will be a logistical nightmare!

Last Saturday my wife and I had our flu jabs at the local town hall which has being used as a vaccination centre throughout the epidemic. We arrived to find a huge queue. We were asked by an official if we were there for flu jabs and were escorted to the front of the queue where it forked (Stand aside callow youths!) The hall had been divided into 2 sections, we were there for about 3mins in total. I was keen to get my flu jab early in case there are shortages of vaccine later on.
