Trying to find low carb meals when eating out.
Hi,

went to the Norwich Show yesterday and was impressed to see a Diabetes UK stand there with loads of information on how to asses your lifestyle risk for developing diabetes.

As I wandered round the show I was less impressed at the food choice offered.

It was meat, meat, more meat (all in pasty white buns) plus sweets and ice cream and chips.

Now meat is fine (as long as you aren't vegetarian and aren't too worried about the alleged long term cancer risks) and agricultural shows do cater to a community centred on meat production.

However, where were the brown rolls, pitta breads, wraps etc.

Where were the salads, raw veggies, beans and pulses?

These are also agricultural products and part of a balanced diet.

So a couple of questions:

(1) Should organisations like Diabetes UK go beyond handing out health literature and start providing food suitable for diabetics (carbs or not, meat or veggie) at these shows to demonstrate the kind of food we should be eating to stay healthy and also providing a useful resource for visitors?

(2) If so, what should the menu be on the Balanced Meal stand?

Cheers
