Hi All

Hope your all well ?

Im struggling with what im eating , as a mobile electrical engineer im up early and out the door and on the road , and i struggle with having breakfast , normally i end up at greggs or maccies , or some pre packaged rubbish from a supermarket. None of which i actually want as i know ill feel it a few hours later !!

Does anyone have any advice on whats a good (for us diabetics) on the go breakfast ?

I am assuming a maccie is a McDonalds? (Sorry, non-native speaker). I can eat just fine at a Mac, believe it or not... Breakfast McMuffin without the muffin, just the eggs, bacon and sausage won't spike me at all, and isn't likely to make you spike either. I just have two or three to make up for the lack of bread, and if you order at a pole you can personalise your order not to include bread/muffin/whatever is carby, without having to explain anything to someone at a register. Burgers same thing, just order those without the bun. Gives for a juicier patty too, without that sponge. No idea what's on offer at a Gregg's, lemme check... Yeah, same thing, just order their breakfast without a bun/roll, and you're all good. Bacon, sausages, eggs etc are perfectly fine for a T2!

Took me a while to figure that out, but it makes being on the road a lot easier once you know how to get fast foods keto-fied. ;)

Thanks for replying , So basically your saying drop the bread/carbs from such items and that will be ok ?

ill give it a go , but tbh i was hoping someone had a great idea for something i could knock up at home :P

You could make an omelette with lots of filling, onions, veggies, bacon etc. the day before. Cut a wedge to take with you for breakfast, if you make a large omelette you'll have multiple days worth of breakfast.
Or if you want to eat at home, bacon, eggs, tomato? Full fat (10%) natural Greek yoghurt is tasty and filling as well, you can add nuts and berries for flavour.
 
I wasn't going out on the road, but after I was diagnosed with T2 I used to boil up batches of eggs (hard boiled) to supply a few day's worth of breakfasts at a time. Just keep in fridge until required.

Anything left from nights before...
Cold meats, cold sausage, eggs made into a frittata (like a cold omelette)
Break fast can be anything you want that suits your body. It's only years of advertising and marketing that have made us believe it needs be cereals or pastries, or warm.

Hmm. On the road, on the “fly?”

Depends on your tolerance to carbs… you could try “fridge raiders” stuff.
But it’s cold.

An independent cafe ordering a breakfast/brunch to order without the carby stuff?
What do you like?? Shrooms, tomatoes, egg & the meats? If it was an “ideal world.”

I’m T1 keep my carbs low.
But I can appreciate stopping for some “scram” if out with a colleague with no issues on the carb front.
I found it hard enough when taking leave & touring with a band.. Exept Sweden. Some kind of smoked fish at the hotel?
 
Hi @Torturedsole . When I am on-the-go, on the road, I pack high-quality sausages (ie very little filler) - nothing beats this easy to transport, nutritious, tasty, easy to eat even while driving or stopped off somewhere. Higher quality sausages are not cheap, but well worth it in my opinion.

I bake mine in the oven (45 mins), with lots of veg the day before, in good quality oil. Yum. Cold salted roasted veg with the sausages aren't so easy to eat on the road, so I eat the leftovers before I leave the house, and pack the sausies I hadn't eaten the day before when straight out of the oven. Cooked sausies store fantastically in and out of the fridge.
 
I survived for ages taking my son to rugby matches with. Hard Boiled eggs, cold bacon rashers or cold sausage. Cheese sticks wrapped in cold meats. All dipped in masses of real mayonnaise. For a change of flavour mix a teaspoon of Sauce, mustard or curry powder into the mayo. Another favourite was roast chicken thighs, done nice and crispy and salty.
Pre cook plenty of bacon and good sausages, and store it in the fridge. take 2 or 3 rashers or sausages with you with hard boiled eggs, or heat in the microwave, whilst a couple of eggs fry, for a very quick breakfast.
Eventually it will click, and you will know simply by looking what is good for you, and how to adapt things to suit.

Ah, well, yes... It's the carbs we can't tolerate, exactly. Almost all carbs turn to glucose once ingested, so it's not just sugar, it's the starches too. Bread, potatoes, cereals etc would spike us. So... Leave those out and you've got brekkie and any other meal sorted to suit your blood sugars. So a breakfast could be eggs with bacon, high meat content sausages, maybe some tomatoes (in moderation), stuff like that. Or a full fat greek yog with some pecans, walnuts or somesuch tossed in. And maybe a handful of berries, if you're okay with those. No need to sign up for a paid account, lots of into and meals on there are free to look up.
 
I make crustless quiche which can also be made into "muffins". Overnight chia with berries and yogurt.
 
And get some packets of pork scratchings. Much less carby (if at all) than crisps, and far more filling.

Research Bulletproof Coffee to find how to make it. You'll need a stick blender or whisk. There's quite a few recipes.. I use butter and coconut oil (KTC brand as no coconut taste). I don't use MCT oil it's expensive and can have laxative effect! I Fill my travel mug with it and drink on the go, not hungry until mid-afternoon. (Don't let it cool before finishing it!).
 
At home I have cheese and ham for breakfast (cheese kept at room temperature). If you are on the go then a good cheesy omelette from a caff - just no toast with it!
 
Ah yes. Pre-baked LCHF/Keto baked goods. My faves are Cheese straws from the famous Fathead pizza dough (I bake a pizza base and three large cheese straws from a doubled amount a week, basically). Really easy to eat while driving also, and are wholesome and fullsome. Also Swedish breakfast buns from the dietdoctor.com recipe bank. Very yummy and filling, but crumble more in the car so not so good to eat while driving. And a Keto bun made with egg whiltes and psyllium husk powder are wonderfully puffy, and great dripping with butter, also better at home before departure for that reason.

If you aren't the baking kind of person there are all kinds of processed low carb breads out there now, but you mght want to 'eat and meter' them of course, and find out which ones suit you, blood glucose wise, and taste wise. Be careful with the spreads and make sure they are no or low sugar. I'm very fond of a new very low carb wrap, although the ingredient list is long (often a bad sign). With lots of butter once out of the microwave, with marmite. Very quick and easy and two of them can fuel me up at least for a not too distant destination on the road. They are not cheap though, but probably stack up well next to bunless egg and bacon mcmuffins (which would be my fast food choice on the go). The latter is not filling though, sadly.
