I am not feeling well with a heavy cold etc etc, and yet feel I can drink a protein drink. I have some Fortisip, Compact Protein drink. (125 ml) Does anyone know if it is particularly highly glycaemic? And any suggestions as to now many units of Novorapid might work for me? I know it is different for different people, but some guidance would be helpful?

We cant possibly know how much novorapid you'd need for however many carbs are in it (peoples ratios can be so very different, some may need 100 times the amount than others do), do you know what your carb ratio is, and the packaging should say how many carbs are in it, if you know those two things and follow any sick days rules you should be able to work it out

The doses of different people can differ dozens of times, so you will have to count yourself how much novorapid you need based on how many units you enter for 10g of carbohydrates

How many carbs does it say on the package?

Are you carb counting to determine your doses of mealtime insulin? If so, count the carbs and dose according to your ratio.
If not, what insulin regime are you following? How are your blood sugars doing with your cold?

It's different for different people, and the difference between people can be so large that any advice on what you should take would be dangerous medical advice.
Can you contact your diabetes team for guidance?

Hope you'll feel better soon!

Hi,

If you are coming down with a sickness or even a cold, this could affect your BGs..? Have you followed the “sick day rules” before taking the protien drink into the equation? (Regarding bolus.)

Working it out, it is about 31 per bottle....but I do not think it would be accurate to inject on that basis because the taste seems quite sweet. I injected 5 units but BG has remained quite high (for me) despite only taking sips every now and again. I do not have a fever now, but I still have no appetite. Blood Sugars have generally not been that high during this period of illness. I think the number of grams in a bottle may vary according to the flavour. In this case it is 25 g. Thank you Antje77

I am not as unwell as I was, and I had even forgotten that I had posted about this previously! Thank you Jaylee. My BG seems quite usual.
