Hi does anybody know if the restrictions are just on the sensors or the meters as well. Or could I order the meter online then get the sensors from boots or Superdrug ? Thanks

Looks like they aren't selling starter packs (the ones with the reader) to new customers, though sensors are readily available if you order via a pharmacy. Sorry. Hopefully the stock shortage will ease up soon and they'll let you buy a reader/sensor combo.

if you have a smartphone you can use the app for scanning.

@Alex j Dunkley

Check out which models/makes of smartphone will work with the different Libre reading apps. I have a Windows phone, for instance, but I can't use it for reading the sensor.

Hopefully, someone on this forum will know where to find this information?

Just checking, I thought you needed a reader to start the sensor?

Does the app take you through the sensor activation then? When you are using a phone only...? And does the overnight scanning work with a phone...?

Does the app take you through the sensor activation then? Yes. Whichever device you activate it with is the device you have to use a reader. I 'assume' that there's some pairing function on the sensor chip itself, that prevents the user from restarting it with a second device.

And does the overnight scanning work with a phone...? Overnight scanning????? - Don't know.

I haven't used the Libre, but allegedly it can scan automatically overnight, without physically touching the reader/phone

No it cant without adding the Bluecon reader, that would make it a CGM and it isn't, its FGM

Oh, I don't know why I am struggling to understand the functionality of it....

I have seen images of peoples graphs overnight......suggesting readings have been taken while they sleep......is this not the case.....is the libre just joining a pre bed and waking scan...?

Hoping to get this for my newly diagnosed daughter aged 10 as her little fingers are so sore from all the finger pricks as she is constantly worried about having hypos.

The Libre sensor is an NFC device - it can store internally up to eight hours of readings - so must be polled at least every 8 hours
to show continuous readings.

I've been looking at something similar to the Bluecon reader, called a MiaoMiao, there are several apps including Spike and xDrip that take the data from the MiaoMiao transmitter (transmits every 5 minutes) and the apps will provide warnings etc. Seems they've created software for Apple first, Android on the way. It's an interesting advance on just having a scanner to use. Things are improving quicker than I can keep up. Can I mention Libre Geeks again? Not a bad resource.
