So far i've had issues with 2 out of my 4 sensors and staying on, first sensor was fine, second came off, third fine, fourth is now lifting. The only difference is both those that stayed on were on my left arm, the two that haven't are on my right

just ordered my starter kit, so looking forward to getting on with this

as an IT specialist, I was intrigued with the idea of collecting the data somehow, had a google around and found this, slightly concerning blog post

http://type1tennis.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/abbott-libre-uploading-your-life-to-us.html

Don't really see anything there to concern me.
We should all be reading the terms and conditions, before we accept, and nowadays, with the privacy issues of FacePalm, Twotter, et al. any privacy infringement by Abbott seems small potatoes in comparison.

I had a 'Mapping your Walk' app recommended to me recently.
When I looked at, I was APPALLED. Encouraged to enter personal details, including name, the app then mapped walks in such detail that start and finish locations were identifiable to individual houses! And people had no problem with it. Well I certainly did.

Interestingly, I was sent an email this morning with an opportunity to invest via the government sponsored Enterprise Investment Scheme in what is believed to be the world’s first truly non-invasive, real-time, continuous monitoring glucose monitoring device, delivering results in cir. 0.5 seconds, and to be developed as a hand-held device for professional use, or a smart wrist band type device for diabetics.

Apparently it has already been subject to a Research Ethics Committee trial at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, a larger scale volunteer study and received the Bionow Healthcare Product of the Year award 2015.

If anyone knows what it is I'd be intrigued!

How do you get involved in this sort of thing Tim if you don't mind me asking?

Would love to be able to get involved and start contributing to the sort of products that could one day revolutionise my control.

Thanks

This came through via a friend who knows about my interests. I'm not directly on the list.

Whats deemed acceptable with ranges? As previously said, sometimes telling me im hypo when im not etc and its currently saying blood is high (15.0) after having lunch and getting the dose wrong when its 13 on a meter

If you tested on two bg meters you'd get two different results, very rarely would you ever get two identical readings, especially when bg levels are high.

Postprandial your bg levels would might have been falling and had you scanned 20mins after your 15mmol/l bg reading you may have got a similar result.

So it happened to me too - I brushed my sensor off on the doorway last night :(
I'd heard of all the other people doing this and was being careful most of the time, but it was late and I was sleepy...
At least it only had a couple of days left on it though, so could have been worse.

Just ordered mine and was hoping this would help as I drive a lot. Disappointing to hear the DVLA stance on it. Looks like I won't be solely relying on the Libre when it comes which I naively hoped. How long does the sensor last is it really 10 days? It is a huge financial cost to find £100 per month for sensors if it isn't reliable?

Does anyone know of a rock solid alternative place to put these sensors?

I put mine on the back of my upper arm and I have noticed a weird trend...
  1. My left arm sensors seem to be mostly reading 1 mmol lower than finger prick readings
  2. My Right arm sensors mostly read 1.5-2.0 mmol higher than blood readings (further out the higher the finger reading is)
  3. Both arms read a lot higher if change from lying down to standing up (values shoot up as soon as I get vertical)
Im sure its because I have the "Wrong Type Of Body" :¬)

Still a very useful tool but...
I hope they make a Version 2 of this product one day that's more stable for my body :¬)

I am on my first sensor. It's in my left arm and like you, it is showing 1mmol lower quite consistently. I can live with this as long as its constant.

I hope that I don't have the same as you when it comes to my right arm. It might seem trivial since you have to mentally adjust the reading anyway, but I think I prefer it to be showing slightly lower.

Haven't noticed a difference in sitting or lying down.

I can't understand why they don't let you calibrate it to a daily bg reading. Maybe one of the unofficial apps will offer this.

I think my findings are 'only valid for my body' but seems to becoming a real trend for me (small sample of 18 sensors so far)
Also the Libre measures interstitial fluid and has a lag over blood pricks
Also they both have crazy +/-mmol acceptable reading so none of them can be perfect

Still for me - a trend is a trend :¬) -but.

I am more worried why when I move from lying down to standing up, the Libre shows the vertical line indicator and the values move from 6.5 to sometimes as high as 9.5 and if I lie down again it goes back to 6.5 (over the 15minute lag period)

Personally I think im weird :¬) it cant be the tech hehe

So the Libre is indicating that you are laying down or standing up by using it's arrows... That's pretty cool tech ;)

@madusmacus

I have exactly the same, that when I stand up from lying, the Libre indicates my bg is rising fast.

I think it could actually be true, that your bg rises when you stand up, since your body switches from 'rest-modus' to 'active modus'. However the Libre seems to slightly exaggerate the rising blood levels while standing up.

However I found out, thanks to the Libre, that my blood sugar rises when I stand up in the morning, and that I have to take pretty huge amounts of insulin even without having breakfast. It's the same if I go from sitting or normal activity to the gym.

So conclusion, it's in my case no nonsense that the Libre indicates higher values when I stand up. But I'm curious, if you just stand up shortly to go to the bathroom and than go back to bed, if your bg actually rises or if it's a Libre glitch. Didn't bother to check that yet with normal BG meter.

Anyway, glad to hear it's not just me.

About an alternative spot: I have used the Libre on my upper lesg successfully for quite some time, but lately it was giving some trouble. Note that Abbot does not replaxce faulty sensor that have been placed on your leg.

If I get up it rises fast but if I stay upright it trends down to a normal blood prick value over about 1-2 hours of being vertical

if I get up go to the bathroom and get back to bed the blip seems to cancel fast

Now here's a strange thing .. As a test I eat some food I know to spike me (mushroom fried rice)
I have not eaten rice for over 2 years :¬)

I did this whiles lying down watching tv and very little in the way of a spike

It might just delay the spike though as I had some weird 3am readings that day 5 hours after the rice
I wont be doing it again :¬)

To much randomness in all this its becoming a computer game not a tool :¬)
And I still think I am weird though hehe :¬)

@madusmacus, your experience seems very unusual, have you spoken to Abbott about it and if yes what did they say?

Have you or anyone else got a name for any Unofficial apps :¬) im a coder here would be nice if I could do something
I've tried 2. Glimp and Liapp. I've found they give different readings to each other and to the libre reader I've found the libre reader to be most accurate
