frozen shoulder

I had a frozen shoulder it was pure agony which lasted for 18 months or so - I had physio terrorism! cortizone injections - did exercises. And one day I cannot remember when It had just gone- thank goodness. So I guess you just have to wait unfortunately.

I had a painful shoulder last May 2008, I went to my GP who said it was a frozen shoulder. She arranged for some physio for me, the pain i felt quite bad at times as it shot down my arm to my elbow, it felt like someone was trying to drill my elbow. I had 4 months of physio, the physio said it was not a frozen shoulder but my muscle was being impinged by the joint I did as I was told, I pulled on tension bands, rolled a ball up and down the wall, pushed my weight against my shoulder and the wall and 16 months on I am still the same. i don't sleep well at all, I have to rotate my shoulder joint to get comfortable, but about once a fornight I take strong painkillers to get a good nights sleep.
hopefully it will get better.

Hi All

I too have had frozen shoulder but was lucky that it lasted for 6 months or so. But I do tend to get a stiff neck quite often. Which can be very painful. Could this too be down to diabetes?

i have 2 frozen shoulders.
i got it in my right shoulder first, then a year later i got it in my left shoulder which has caused me neck pain too.
i was so fed up with my husband moaning when i asked him to do up my bra, that i bought some front fastening ones. but even that is sore as i have to bend my arm to get my arm in.
i had a cortasone injection that was so painfull, i felt sick and dizzy, i will never have one of those again.
i have used a tens machine, it eased it for a little while then it was back to being in pain again.
im now using deep heat and neurofen.
i hope all your shoulders are better now.

I had a frozen shoulder about 5 years ago. I used exercise classes to get over it. about 18 months in all. It's been fine since. Bernstein and David Mendosa, both write about frozen shoulder as a complication of T2.

Ps TIGHT BG control seems to keep it from happening so often

I see you had the cortisone injection, have you ever had some physiotherapy at all ? Why are you using over the counter meds when there is far more effective prescription remedies available ?
You shouldn't have to be suffering in this way for so long. You should discuss this with your GP again or get a referral to a specialist.
 
Having read this thread, I now wonder if my previous problem may have been diabetes related.

Six or seven years ago I finally (after 18 months) got a diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica because of the severe pain and inflexibility of both shoulders. I was treated with steriod injections first, followed by one year on steriod tabs. Played absolute havoc with my BGs - anything up to 26 on a good day. They were much lower when I finally went on to insulin (14-18), and I also wonder now if the pre-insulin increased BGs was because of the 12 months of steriods - they never really went back to how they were previously.

Any thoughts?

steroids would indeed increase your BG levels causing them havoc...

I'm into my first year of one frozen should, so far I'm not doing to bad... I've lost a lot of mobility in it, so this is frustrating I am prescibed pain killers but I do avoid these as much as possible, I do know when I pushed it tooo far though, and the pain I get is quite sickening and is known to drop me to my knees..

So far I've managed to keep working, as some of my duties such as cleaning out the kennels are very theraputic indeed, funny thing is when handling the dogs, if I got a ill mannered large dog rotti or such like pulling on there lead, this doesn't really hurt as it forward , but a little rug rat who scatty at the end of the lead can bring me to my knees, as they tend to dash around to the side and behind which starts the shoulder going...
 
Frozen shoulder is more of a risk in people with diabetes. It is also a common first-recognised symptom of Parkinson's Disease.

I've had it too. My Mum had it (she was type 1) for quite a while.

Mine came on about 3 years ago and lasted for about 10 months but probably took a couple of years for me to get full mobility back in it. I had physio and acupuncture but neither made much difference. It was weird because I started with my hip going out about 6 years ago - turned over in bed one morning and couldn't move, then that got better and I had a problem with my knee, then an arm, then my shoulder, then my coccyx - it's like it's been moving around my body!!!

I have to say though that since I have been taking the coconut oil my joints feel a lot easier. Whether it is just co-incidence I haven't a clue but it's working for me.
