Frustrated with GPs

Type of diabetes
Type 2
Type 2 very well co trolled with low carb . Then diagnosis with PMR and given steroids. Yeap up goes blood sugar. Felt shocking. Nurse prescribed gliclazided. Made no difference to blood results. Seen 2 GPs and they told me need to see Diabetic nurse as they don't know anything about diabetes. But the surgery doesn't have a diabetic nurse at the moment. So frustrated and feeling rotten.
So took my diabetes into my own hands. Stricter with my diet, came off the gliclazide and they had lowered the steroid dose. So now in pain with PMR but blood sugar under control. Only thing they are saying now is I'm testing too often.
So frustrated that they seem to leave us to manage ourselves. NHS struggling to deal with the numbers of patients. I know they are doing their best but I've learnt not to rely on them. Stay strong.

So, they admit they know little about Diabetes but they do know you're testing too much? :banghead:

Honestly, heaven help us when it comes to 'experts'.

Seeing this as being a pattern now, people having to take it into their own hands. I think a lot of so called 'experts' as @Guzzler says are just embarrassed they didn't do anything for you and thus turn to being rather offstandish. Testing is how you know anything is going on!

As we are now waist deep as a species in obesity and T2 Diabetes you would be forgiven for thinking that one of the first things the committees would do is to educate those at the front line but no... any GP or nurse who wants to help has to learn in their own time and even then faces push back from colleagues. It makes no sense and diminishes confidence in the whole system.

Given the global level of ineptitude and misinformation for frontline medical advice for T2D control... One would be forgiven to think that there is a big conspiracy to ensure that T2D remains chronic and progressive in order to maintain the growth of major food/pharma/sickcare industries...

The only person I see is a nursing assistant, not even a state registered nurse, so I have no opportunity to ask any questions about managing my condition. The good side is that I can get check-ups and tests done and I can see my results online now. It's then up to me to analyse them and take action accordingly. Sometimes I have a telephone appointment with the doctor and request certain tests, for example, liver function tests. I have to manage it all myself, so thank goodness for this forum and YouTube!! To be honest, if I did see a doctor they would probably be giving me out of date advice so I'm better off without them.

I have a different kind of rheumatism, but I did find that cowmilk products made the inflammation worse, and after a while, even eggs were a problem. Switched to goat's cheese, felt a whole lot better. Diabetes popped up after that, and when I went low carb the lack of inflammatory carbs helped a lot too, to the point where I can get away with a tiny little bit of cow dairy, and I'm fine with eggs now. It does all narrow the menu-scope some, but it could be worth a try, kicking out (cow)dairy for a week, maybe two?

Good luck!!!
Jo

I see the nurse again later this week. Fortunately at the moment my numbers are all heading in the right direction. But it will be interesting to see what she says.
