Fry up

No - that's not it. I only eat twice a day (1200 and 1800).

The Cumulative Carb Effect is REAL.

Why, Patch?
My dietitian (yes, I know you don't believe dietiitians) is insistent that regular meals including breakfast are important and from what I can see she seems to have evidence on her side.
If nothing else surely you are prolonging the period of fasting, during which people often find their glucose levels rising due to the release of glucose from the liver (ie glucagon isn't surpressed as it is by eating and a release of insulin...if you are producing some)
On top of that it may be that eating infrequently can contribute to problems with lipids and insulin resistance.

The frequency of daily eating occasions has long been suspected to affect health outcomes, in particular cardiometabolic risk (3,4). Previous epidemiological studies have shown lipid profiles to become more favorable with increasing number of meals (5,6,7). An increased meal frequency has been associated with lower (fasting) total serum cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels (8,9,10). Studies by Farshchi and colleagues have suggested that irregular meal frequency appears to produce a degree of insulin resistance (11,12).

The study itself of a large number of subjects in Sweden (over 60 year olds) found that those who were ate irregular meals, defined as 'not always' or 'not usually' eating 3 main meals a day were more likely to have insulin resistance and other symptoms of the metabolic syndrome. As they say, correlation doesn't mean causation but it might be something worth considering,

It's because those are the times when I'm hungry. Also - I don't know when I am full, so I do have problems when I try to eat more regularly. I've tries eating 6 small meals a day - that was a disaster. As soon as I'd eaten the first small meal, I'd be ravenous, and couldn't WAIT for the next small meal!

Eating 2 meals a day is the only way I can regulate the amount of food that I do eat.

Also - I can't face food in the morning. I've never eaten breakfast. (on a school day, anyway...)

 Saw this and it started me off as well. ( Marmalade and toast !! ) As I'm new to this I have taken advice from you regulars. I have started having eggs, bacon and shrooms. Love it. I throw in one slice of wholemeal nimble ( 8.3g carb ) Now and again. Really must ask Patch about the black pudding. Never thought to check out the carb content on that !! If I could put some on my breakfast , I really would be happy. So patch, how much black pudding is (carb) ok ?

Black Pudding is an OK choice. It really depends on where you get it from. The Black Puddings you can buy in supermarkets (Lidl do good one) tend to have a higher carb content than the ones you can buy from butchers.

I usually slice 'em up and freeze 'em, defrosting as I need 'em...

Hi

If you ever need a carb value just ask as I have a data base based on Mcance and Widdowson and can check it on my laptop. The Carb bible is quite accurate but the Collins book is not - just look at swede for instance - it says in there 2-3 g/100g when in fact it is 5g/100g. I have never been able to verify the detail of the Collins book - think it is from the US!
