Furious at NHS ignorance (IMHO)

Perfectly put. Ally, it's great to see how much stronger you've become since you've been a member here - there's no messing with you now!

As for politics, in this instance, I don't think it's connected to the issues the OP has raised, ignorance re diabetes. The advice given and approach taken has been the same over consecutive governments.

I totally agree that the NHS is not doing very well for diabetes patients but it must be very frustrating for GPS and nurses when the patients have the. attitude that I came across just this week " I shouldn't have the chocolate biscuits my bloods are high but you only live once "

I have exactly that same thing said to me by the other diabetics at work. So sad. Problem is that low carbing isn't encouraged by either our village doctor or by the surgery DN. I do understand now though that they have to put aside their own thoughts on this and give advice based on the NICE (?) guidelines.

It must be very difficult to give advice knowing it's wrong.

the next surgery is, t taken any more patients on. Yesterday I rang up and demand to have a blood test, got one for 25th January, next I asked for an appointment for the diabetic nurse, the hey said it's April, I complained that we a 4 months after my year for a check up, complained again and got and appointment with her for February.

These people are Professionals and their job is to give good medical advice and not mindlessly follow NICE Guidelines (note the word Guidlines). Any GP worth his salt will either record a 'good' reason in the patient records for any deviation or talk 'off the record' when needed.

Are you registered as an online patient? This by April 2016 will also give you access to blood results, able to view documents from consultants etc. Currently it would enable you to book an appointment with any GP WITHOUT having to go through Receptionists.
Some Practices have already given patients carte blanche access to view their records on line. Some Practices you have to ask your GP permission for full access. Some Practices are still so far behind the times they aren't complying at all.

If you are registered as an online patient you can book appts with GPs and some allow nurse appointments as well. However, it doesn't stop you going in or phoning. Its just another way of getting much easier access and much more information than you ever had before.

The GPs have to allocate set amount of bookings for GPs online and many of these are wasted at the moment because patients don't realise.

Not one to be argumentative, but how can you not!
The NHS is funded by government, run by government appointees, budgets set by health departments run by government cabinet members and the doctrines set by non health political appointees. How is the Tory manifesto health policy adopted? I'm certain that it is not agreed by the General Medical Council. So why are junior doctors going on strike because they agree with the government's policy.
I have received today two emails concerning going private! It is so divisive and not in the interests of the majority of people in this country.
It is divided into five levels of health care in this country.
The super rich including the aristocracy
The very rich pay medical insurance
The rich, pay medical insurance
The middle- classes who pay for medical insurance.
Then the rest of us, who have to put up with sub standard health care and surgery waits and six month wait for first time referrals.
I couldn't get private insurance even if I tried, they don't know about RH!

I could go on, but I don't want to rant no more!

As I said in my previous post on this thread, three hours for an ambulance!
He got took in at 5pm, no bed, overnight, stuck in A&E. Finally got a bed in a ward where someone had vacated (died!) Ward closures, staff shortages, not enough beds.
The NHS is under too much pressure and most of the budget spent on agency staff and the hierarchy instead of the patients needs and care.
