Hello everyone. I've not posted for a while as I have been in remission for a good while, although I do still read the posts, and sometimes reply to them.
I have obviously been in a world of my own this past year ... mainly with my daughter going far away to Uni ... and trying desperately to adjust to my life without her presence, and feeling so lost.
I have no problems keeping to my sensible eating .. which has kept me in remission for four years now.
However, the past few months I have started to fall asleep for 'supposedly' no reason during the daytime,
I've not been testing, as I know the foods that I eat all suit me, so I could see no real point in stabbing myself several times per day.
However ... I stood on the scales prior to my bath this morning and was shocked that I had gained 8lbs since I last stood on three weeks ago! This made no sense to me since I only eat once or sometimes twice per day.
Well I now think I have found the cause. I have been having the drink Kefir (The original one) and I checked the bottle today to find there are 48 carbs in a bottle and some days I have had a complete 1littr bottle in the form of three glasses spread over the whole day!
Has anyone else found this? I mean by having a few glasses per day?
I truly thought it was safe to consume that amount and it was the wonderful Dr P. Jamnadas who introduced me to it via his video clips so I never doubted that it was doing me good!
If you also like Kefir then have you stopped having it ... or do you have any suggestions on how to control the amount I have, because I think I'd find it almost impossible just to have 250mls :/

Sleepiness was one of my main symptoms of high BG before diagnosis. Even when not testing several times a day, it may be worth testing when you have symptoms.

Googling suggests that you can have "water kefir" which would presumably have far less carbs but still have the probiotic benefits. There are also coconut versions which might be lower carb than the milk ones?

I've been considering having it to improve my gut health but would prefer a lowish carb version so will read this thread with interest.

Might be worth testing before and after some kefir to see how it is affecting your bg.... Then you could experiment with different varieties to see if there is one that is more tolerable to your blood sugars. (That's assuming that it is the kefir that is causing the weight gain / tiredness , which may or may not be the case.)

Than you for all suggestions.
They are very helpful and I will get mysef another testing kit so that I can check.
If it's not the Kefir then it will be more worrying since nothing else in my diet has changed.

According to the Sainsbury’s website one litre of non flavoured kefir drink contains about 600 kcal of energy as well as the 40 odd carbs. That is a lot extra for your body to deal with and maybe is the reason for the weight gain?
