hi,
i'm new and type 2, but found a book that is really for type 1, think like a pancreas written by a diabetic educator in the USA, the reviews said it was a great help, it's on amazon. hope you get things back on track

I guess when you say your diabetes is "uncontrolled" you mean high BG levels ? A good start would be to keep a detailed diary of all BG readings, carbs eaten, insulin injected and any exercise you may do. Keep this for at least a week and you can discuss readings with your DSN. Chances are your insulin levels need adjusting or your diet needs tweaking or maybe both. Do you carb count ? Are you on a basal/bolus regime ? Sorry to ask lots of questions but if you want decent advice, we need to understand your current situation a little better. Take care, Mo

The book Think like a Pancreas that Jill mentions is a must.

I assume by saying your seeing your doc tomorrow you mean your gp, if this is the case then I would ask them to refer you over to the care of the diabetes clinic at your local hospital, they are more specialised in dealing with matters to do with type 1 diabetes and will hopefully get you back on track, let us know how you get on.

By uncontrolled i mean that i struggle to take my insulin at the right times and check my bg. I take lantus every night without fail but forget to take my novorapid. And yes i carb count

Well, no easy answer then. You just need to make it a habit/routine. How are you levels when you do test ?

Don't understand why you bother with carb counting but not injecting..??

I would get your gp to refer you to a consultant at hospital as well.

Unfortunately with basal bolus regimes, their ability to control bg levels depends very much on remembering to comply with frequent injections, bg testing and counting the carb ideally using an insulin to carb ratio, BUT, there is still the twice daily regimes which consist of a basal mixed with a bolus and they come in different strengths. People will still need to count the carb but whereas basal bolus allows flexibility, the twice daily regimes involve remembering to eat specific amounts of carb at set times during the day and test their bg levels 4-5 times per day. This regime is more ideal for young kids at school and for those where compliance is a big issue.
