Getting diagnosed

Hi,has anyone else struggled to get diagnosed with diabetes?

My a1c is good but I know my body and it's only my fasting and diet that is ultimately hiding my body's reaction to carbohydrates.

If you're sure there's insulin resistance, and you're already fasting and low carbing, then a HbA1c isn't going to be of much use. Maybe ask for an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)? Then they'd see the spike, if there is one, as it happens, and you wouldn't have to go through 3 months of carby eating to get the numbers corresponding with diabetes. No idea whether it'd be acceptable as a diagnostic tool in this case, but you could ask...

Hi and welcome to the forums.

Generally in the UK doctors will only diagnose T2 diabetes after two HbA1c tests over 48. They will also diagnose after a random plasma glucose test of equal to or greater than 11.1 mmol/l in someone with diabetic symptoms; a fasting plasma glucose level equal to or greaterthan 7.0mmol/l; or a plasma glucose level equal to or greater than 11.1 mmol/l two hours after a 75g load of glucose - the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (info from Bilous and Donnelly).

If you've not been diagnosed it is probably because you don't meet these criteria.

I don't see that there's anything in particular to be gained from being diagnosed - if you have a low HbA1c and no symptoms that's pretty much a definition of "normal".

Am I missing something?

I was peeing like a racehorse, and that's one symptom of type two diabetes, and there are other symptoms as well.
