Dear Community,

We are building a community feature similar to the pre and post meal testing feature last week (http://www.diabetes.co.uk/features/pre-and-post-meal-testing.html)

This week we will be writing about tips for getting through the temptations of Easter. If anyone has any good suggestions please write them here and we will include them in the feature!

Best,

Moser Roth 85% dark chocolate from Aldi stores is delicious and excellent value. There are 5 individual bars per pack, and each bar contains 4g of carbs. Its the best dark chocolate I have come across, well worth a try! :D

oooh, sounds yummy, have you cooked with it Nigel? I use a high cocoa content dark choc for my Champagne truffles but it needs to be able to withstand lots of heat!!

Don't deny yourself completely.
I have few problems with Easter because as a child I had hepatitis over Easter and couldn't eat any chocolate. When I was allowed it had to be small amounts at a time. As a result I still had Easter eggs long after everyone else had finished theirs. I enjoyed this little treat every day so carried on doing it every year. A very useful practice when several decades later I developed diabetes .
Good quality dark chocolate has far fewer carbohydrates than milk.
My special treat this year: to be eaten over several weeks, is the 'The Serious Dark Fix™ Extra Thick Easter Egg' from Hotel chocolat

No not yet Debloubed, but I am sure it will work just fine. This Aldi chocolate is far superior than some of the most expensive brands, I know cause I have tried them! :D

I'll be round to your house on Easter Sunday for some of those Champagne Truffles............

Ha ha! don't speak too soon, I haven't made them yet!! although they are dead easy, just melt the choc in a bowl over water, when it's completely melted, remove from heat, and stir in a tablespoon of honey (use the clear, posh stuff) and then quickly mix in 2 (or 3!) tablespoons of bubbly but mix it hard and fast otherwise it goes a bit funny! then leave it to set (in the fridge) and then roll it into little truffle sized balls :-) no idea how many carbs per ball (last time I made them I didn't carb count!) but can't be many (I reckon no more than 5 or 6g) and they taste yum! :D

I am LOVING the sound of the Hotel Chocolat Egg though, thanks Pheonix, that's going on my list!! :P

Pheonix, where do you buy that from, can you buy over the net, and are they expensive? (tight not the word  )

I'll get the Mrs on to that recipe Debloubed, carb counting can go out the window for one day!

Sorry, Nigel... I have generous children :D

Now there's a thought, if my kids can't pay £22 for a Easter Egg for their old dad its a bad job!

I made a cake with ground almonds for Easter Sunday trifle a couple days ago so that it would dry out a bit - can't find it now??? - wonder where it went?

Keep the tips coming all! Some good stuff coming out of this...

Hmm Easter really don't do it.. This Easter is the first Easter for years that both OH and I been home together and not working..

I did have a passion for Cream Eggs to me they were lush indeed.. Of cause when I became a diabetic they hit the no list for a very long while.. When I did my DAFNE course I spent a whole week with one sat on the desk... DAFNE would show me how

It took another fortnight after finishing DAFNE to decide to eat it... After a long time missing my Cream Egg well anticipation or what... Carb counted it, caluclated my required insulin dose, slowly peeled the wrapper off bite into hit and.......

Felt ill indeed... It was soooo sickly sweet it was horrible indeed I was so disapointed, as it was something I craved but avoided for so many years.. Oh well at least it stopped my craving..

I might treat myself to a kitkat, as I haven't had one for a while and I do enjoy them

This easter I am having a treat, proffiteroles, I have bought Morrisons ready made choux pastry proffitoroles, only 3.7 carbs for 4 rolls, filled with low fat cream and a sauce made from 85% chocolate, cream and a little sweetener. Total carbs for 4 rolls around 7g.

Nowt much different for me... I reckon Easter's over-rated anyhow. Another nice long break from work is enough and never mind being suckered into wasting more money on cards and chox. Rather have something savoury anyway. Or a glass of wine. 8)

my reward for hitting my weight loss is a galaxy egg for both me and the wife! Yum! Well, I dont see why the kids should get all the sickly sweet goodness! (Oh and yes, I am, for the first time in years, having a hot cross bun too!)

I love Easter as we get together with our Italian relatives on my hubbys side- but it going to be a nightmare this year - my first since diagnosis - Bella Bella EAT!!! - its wall to wall carbs & sugar - all those easter breads and easter pie and pastas - :( - they are older and typical Italian mammas - The lamb will be fine - (minus the herb crust) and taking a trifle - though I can't tell them its a low carb/sugar one - You would hear them in Italy   will have to pretend to have a bit of everything and push it onto my hubby - oh I love a challenge!

Nice one lovinglife!

You'll be pushing the food on to hubby's plate, and the in-laws will think you have finished and must be hungry so will pile your plate back up again!
