I was diagnosed 3 months ago with type 2 and because my levels were high put straight on to metformin. The doctor gave me two weeks to get used to the idea and read up on diabetes then two weeks later I saw the diabetic nurse who has been fab. It has come as a shock but I am determined to turn a negative into a positive. I am strict with myself and my family are amazed how motivated I am with what I eat. I have bought a bike and cycle when I can and also walk in my lunch hour. I have already lost 2 stone in weight. I was a member on the USA facebook page but got a bit down over the negative attitudes of people.

My Hba1c was 79 beginning of June. I have to see the nurse in a couple of weeks so hoping it has dropped. I am booked on a DESMOND day end of September so am looking forward to finding out more.

Welcome you will be ok here
You have already taken the first steps in your diabetic journey and with your positive attitude you will soon get the results you want.

Hi mims welcome to the forum. My HbA1c Went from 67 to 38 in 4 months. Some others have done much better so fingers crossed.

Hi and welcome. I am positive that you will see a good outcome from your loss of weight. I am now 5 stone down by running, cycling, diet (this is the important one). Fingers crossed for you and yes it can be done as this is too difficult two says. You will see from my signature that I went from 91 to 40 and now 35 since the new year and if I can do it you sure will.

Hi Mims & welcome, I've just found this forum although I've been type2 diabetic for 25yrs. Have steadily and very slowly lost weight over the years, kept myself occupied and interested in life. Diabetes, once it is embraced/accepted is not difficult to live with. I'm already feeling the good vibes that are generated by people on this Forum so jump in and enjoy.....

When desmond confuses and contradicts all you learn here dont worry you will find that is pretty standard with luck it will be a good one but they are like hens teeth.

Hiya Mims

Don't be disheartened about your HbAc1 result. It is only a starting point by which you can measure your success.

I have only been here a month but when I joined I had just received my HbAc1 result - 93. I have been prescribed Metformin but because I have managed to get my finger prick tests down to an average of 6.4 ish the nurse has not increased my dose from 500mg per day.

Get strength from your friends, family and the people on this forum and you will empower yourself to tackle your blood sugars. Most people on this site promote taking your blood glucose several times a day using a blood glucose monitor and by reducing the carbs that you eat. Many (not me yet) use a Low Carb, High Fat diet (LCHF). Personally I am following a GI/GL diet and find this suits me at present.

I honestly believe the best thing I ever did was become a member of this group and I hope that you will feel the same way yourself.

Hi and welcome. You've done really well with the weight loss so keep it up. You'll find lots of good advice on here and we're a pretty friendly bunch and on the whole really positive. The only negatives you'll hear is when someone gets upset with their doc/nurse/nhs
