Hi everyone. The GP has doubled my dose of gliclazide today, so now 80mg twice a day. Quick question about timing please?... do I have to have a set amount of time between each dose or can I take one before dinner and one before tea? Thank you.

If you don't eat breakfast I'd suggest you ask your doctor or pharmacist. (Or hopefully a 2 meal a day gliclzide user will post what they do here).

When I was on Gliclizide twice a day I used to take it before breakfast and before my evening meal, the important thing to remember is that the optimum time to take gliclizide is 20minutes before you eat your meal as it triggers insulin release and can cause hypos if you don’t eat. Also as your dose has been doubled I would also watch out for hypos after eating too just to make sure you aren’t going too low. If you find yourself having regular hypos you may need either to up your carbs or do what I did and with the support of your GP reduce your dose

If on occasion I didn’t eat breakfast I used to have it before my lunch and dinner. But I never ate between meals and my meals were 6-7 hrs apart

Thank you. Yes I've been taking it 20 mins before dinner, but now it's been increased I wanted to be sure taking it 6/7 hours apart is ok. I prefer to skip breakfast ( I will still finger test on waking) and just have dinner/tea. Thanks.

I've gone from 17 on waking to 10.0 today so it's definitely helping. Will monitor for hypos but I don't think I need to worry just yet.Thank you.
