Hello Again,
Sorry, but i have some questions i need to know!!
i returned to my doctor last night, following the GTT i had on monday, to be told that the results confirmed i have type 2 diabetes, my before test BG was 5.8 and after test was 11.5, is it possible to be a little bit diabetic, or is diabetic diabetic??
Have my symptoms of tireness, feeling a bit "spaced out" and generally feeling pooh for most of the day been signs?? i havent been drinking or weeing a lot more, perhaps a little more than usual?
i have been BG testing for last 5 days, and my morning BG is ok ish, between 6 and 7, but mostly my problems start what ever i eat, even weetabix or a salad sandwich pushed me up to about 9, and stays there for about 3 to 4 hours, is that why i feel rough???
i feel like there is nothing safe for me to eat! i showed my GP my diet sheet /bg testing, and she said not to test , as i might get too wrapped up in it!!! but that its what im eating thats the problem, i just have to find out what my triggers are! i feel that its more carbs than sugar that sets me off, but i dont know for sure!
She has put me on metformin, one tablet a day for two weeks, then i have to have the HBa1?? test, then go see her again to up pills . She said they do prescribe strips at my surgery, but she wont give me any yet??
need help please!!

So your doctor told you not to test LOL, testing is the only way that you are ever going to get control of this, you will see what makes you high and then change your diet and portion sizes so that you wont go too high and feel like ****,
tell your doctor you have the diabetes and only you can control it
sorry Aly, it is for life, it takes time but you will come to terms with it all

Hi Aly - welcome!

And don't worry - you're among friends. This is a great and supportive site, with lots of helpful and knowledgeable people. Someone will be along soon with the 'Information for Newly Diagnosed', or it's a sticky thread on the Greetings and Introductions bit - I think!

I'm afraid a 'little bit diabetic' is like a 'little bit pregnant' - if you ignore it, it will grow! It sounds as if you've been diagnosed early, though, so you'll be well able to get in control of it, particularly if your doctor is helpful and will give you the strips to allow you to keep testing. Keep pushing for that!

And yes, you're quite right - it's carbohydrates, not just sugars. But you'll soon get the hang of it.

Type 2 target blood glucose levels are:

4 - 7 mmol/l before meals;
less than 8.5 mmol/l 2 hours after.

I'm just going to have chicken and avocado salad for lunch - it's not such a bad life!

Hi Aly :) Two people have mentioned already that you need to push for strips to make sure you can manage your diabetes properly. I agree with them. Here is a link to some some arguments you can use to help them make up their minds to give you a prescription:

Good luck :)
