Do you test at these times or do you just feel low? Are you on any medications that can cause hypos?when I go out for a walk for example, after about 45 mins I start to go low and take a glucose tablet which helps, are these good for me?
Hi, I'm one one Metformin a day, I have tested when feeling "odd" and I have been 3.6 , I have recently started the LCHF diet and have lost 10lb, but it's odd cos if I have a bad nights sleep I seem to put some back on! Or is it my imagination ? LolDo you test at these times or do you just feel low? Are you on any medications that can cause hypos?
I only take the tablets when needed, but mainly it's when I do some sort of exercise, ie walking gardening hoovering, maybe I shouldn't work so hard!lolHi Magsx1,
Basically, in this situation a glucose tablet is not bad for you. All carbohydrates (including sugar) quickly get turned into glucose by your digestive system, and pour into your bloodstream. This is why they "raise your blood sugar". However, what does you damage is high blood sugar. So if you take one tablet and your low sugar rises to a normal (non-diabetic) level, there is no problem.
However, your diet as a whole can influence your level of insulin resistance in the longer term, so if you are consuming lots of glucose tablets regularly, the picture is not so clear.
I'm curious about your diet? I have cut out all bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, but I do eat porridge in the morning basically because I am not really a breakfast person and can just about tolerate it to take my tablet in the mornings,Theres no harm in taking one if you have tested your BS and it is under 4 as it is a quick fix to get your BS back in the normal range. It is important to test though as sometimes I find even though Im starting to shake ect my BS is still in the 5s and all I need to do is eat a handful of peanuts or slow down slightly and I feel better .
I got mine from a firm called 'gluco carry' on the internet about £5 if I rememberHi Cumberland,
I carry them in a bag in a tube which hold 10, I didn't know there is such a thing as a gluco carry, I will check it out as I don't need that many on me.
