I had a great appointment today. My HbA1c has gone down to 46. My blood pressure and all the blood tests results are fine. My cholesterol has gone up slightly from 5.3 to 5.6 so the nurse has said that I can have a fasting cholesterol test in 6 months, with a full breakdown. They dont offer these as routine, so this is a small victory.
I have also lost nearly 2 stones in 18 months, just through low-ish carbing (around 100g a day split into two meals).
The biggest surprise was that she recommended low carbing and eating full fat stuff, butter etc. She has been on a course and learned the latest research and now backs what I am doing instead of getting disapproval of my dietary choices. She said the evidence is stacking up and becoming mainstream.
So, 6 years since diagnosis of being a Type 2, and 9 years since becoming pre-diabetic (and told by another gp not to worry, and not to do anything) I am still diet controlled and dont need meds.
Given that i was ill with a big infection and had tons of antibiotics during this 6 month period since my last HbA1c I am very pleased with the result. The only dietary change I am going to make is to eat more protein (I am eating very little) and let my cheese monster loose : ))))
