Good Morning

Good morning everyone, I wish you all a very happy weekend. Sun is out in Hampshire and I am off to London today with Ed, we are going to see a show and the weather is not looking good from lunchtime. Oh well, but I am very excited about going and will be making some lunch for us to take very soon. He should be here about 10 o'clock
I hope you have a lovely day and look forward to hearing all about it when you get back.
Don't worry about me being stuck at my desk all day today, working - no, really, don't give it a thought! You go and have fun...
;) :joyful:

Morning, peeps!
Overcast and cool in S Glos this morning. I have a day's proofreading ahead of me (groan), but I don't really mind as we're forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms for this afternoon, so at least it will keep me out of trouble and earning a bit of cash. (Which will no doubt enable me to get into a bit of trouble as soon as I have an opportunity to spend it! Well, I never promised to grow old gracefully......)
Have a lovely day everyone, and big hugs to all the poorly peeps this morning.

Good morning everyone!
Looks like depending on weight loss is reflecting my mood.
I have to be careful as I can just get fed up and attack my fatty body with starvation and exercise.
I have to give myself a good talking too not to go extreme.
No matter how tempting it is.
I know for fact many diabetics on here started their weight loss that way but luckily im wise to ALL the facts.
Its newees I worry about.
I hope I give them the true facts only so they can decide for themselves.
I see now that's why some members have left.
I know our group are being honest but it's a shame everyone couldnt be the same. :(

You - along with others on here - have been a huge inspiration to me, Vicky and I really do hope you're not feeling responsible for anyone having left the forums. If they're not ready to hear the truth, then it simply means they just have further to travel on their journeys.
I've always admired your honesty and courage in speaking out, and I have no doubt that your incredible wisdom and experience have offered many of us a fast-track towards a greater understanding of diabetes and all its complications.
We all get down days, and I can particularly relate to the temptation to "up the ante" a bit with regard to the weightloss, but we know we're in it for the long haul, and thank God we all have each other for understanding and support through the down days.
They aren't giving out any medals for how fast we travel.
Big, big hugs, pet! xxxxx

Thank You Arlene, It is "knitting together" just fine, it tells me when I have been limping on it too much. Hope your Mum and Dad are both well. And how is that shoulder of yours? What effect did the Physiotherapy have on it? You take care now. :) William x
Hi William, Mum and dad not doing too bad at the moment, glad your knee is healing, my shoulder not right but can cope with it a bit better, not as much pain just aching a lot. Don't know what is worse the pain or the aching. As for the physiotherapy do not think much of it, but do the exercises he tells me to do, the heat pads work better, thanks, take care of yourself. :)

@amgrundy - Arlene, I find the constant ache is what drains me - both Mentally and Physically, but Pain with me comes in 'waves' and is short lived most of the time and I can put up with that. I am pleased you tried the Heat Pads and they gave you some relief, every little bit helps in pain management. :) Wmx

@ickihun - Oh Vicky, don't be so tough on yourself :). @debrasue is right and so nicely put too - Well Done debrasue:). I cannot say or add anymore to what's been said. But, You know we are all here for You, just as You are for us. Off to make Evening Meal now, chat later. William x

I think you are right about worrying about the newbies. I consider myself a newbiew, having joined last November and very very ill until May, so posting only in the same places more or less. As I have said many times, I went on a vegan diet with occasional feasts of meat. I went on the same kickstart diet different versions many times at pcrm.org. It took over two years to lose 40 pounds and has been a constant struggle ever since. And recently, on LCHF, I have gained 5. You see people on this forum who are young, prediabetic with very few other issues, sometimes male (easier to lose massive weight), they advertise here going on LCHF and having success in only a few months. I have learned some things on this forum, but I am sobered somewhat by the fact that when I first came on here, I saw posts by someone very like me, similar age with some of the same health history, attitudes, everything. I emailed her and answered to her posts. I was still figuring out how to do the forum. I was sadly informed by a moderator that she had died and referred to a post that talked about her losing her struggle.

In learning on this forum, I have joined Jason Fung's email list and listened now to three monthly online webcasts by the brilliant Dr. Bernstein. But I am afraid to do intermittent fasting with the numerous health issues I have.

I was able to go to the farmer's market today, and there wasn't a whole huge range out there. The Washington, DC area is very expensive and we probably have some of the priciest farmer's markets in the world. Who can afford bison at 20 bucks a pound? And none of the farms that show up sell free range organic meat or free range chicken or duck. Grass fed is about as good as you can get or a new modification called pasture raised. There is one hispanic farm out in Virginia that brings some great vegetables and in season even watermelons with seeds and an organic n farmer and her husband who bring their stuff but meat can be a difficult and expensive proposition.

It is discouraging to encounter the anti root vegetable crown on this forum. One organic carrot can help a whole gallon of pretty boring stew. And God help you if you have grains, which some people need because of other issues. Should everyone get used to dealing with psyllium husks? Maybe, but maybe that isn't possible every day, given other issues. Chia seeds? Can everyone have cruciferous veggies? Tomatoes? Peppers? Hot peppers? The tyranny of the young and innocent can be astounding.

Ultimately, we have to have sustainable life systems and that includes minimizing our footprints and our transportation. We have to care about and help one another and we have to maintain a humanity and a sense of humor and even a sense of injustice and sensitivity to the feelings of others in the middle of all that.

Sometimes we have to even give ourselves a break. Sometimes we even have to remember not to expect miracles all the time
Wow. Very thought-provoking post, Galja - and very true..... Thank you for sharing this.

Good morning everyone. Beautiful sunny day here in Central Scotland. Hope a good day for all
@Galja - what I would give to be able to digest a vegetable- cruciferous or root! but we just have to adapt to our circumstances and you are making a great job of doing just that.

Morning everyone, it's cloudy at the moment with rain showers expected tonight - just in time for our walk back from mums!
@Galja have you ever thought about becoming a writer, you write some very eloquent and descriptive posts

Good morning all, nice and bright and fresh here in Lancashire this morning, not bothered to look at the weather forecast this morning as yesterday we had all 4 seasons in one day minus the snow.

Hi Debra, I feel for you as I have arthritis in my hands and fingers, I notice a flare up in wet weather too. Cheer up my mother has an old saying < Oh well never mind it won`t always be dark at six> not sure what it has to do with life. :):):)
Aww - thanks Arlene. I usually feel better once it actually starts to rain - it's the change in pressure from high to low or vice versa which normally savages me.
But now I'm beginning to wonder if today's fiasco might have been due to the tray of roasted Med vegetables I cooked last night, including tomatoes, aubergines and red peppers - all of which are said to affect arthritis sufferers. I also ate half a small baked potato, and that's part of the nightshade group too. All these veggies contain solanine, which is actually a poison in large amounts, but which is alleged to be particularly bad for arthritis pain.
I know - pretty stupid to eat them, then. But I have eaten all of them individually since starting LCHF and been absolutely fine, so I thought I could get away with it last night, as I have always adored roasted Med vegetables. I guess my body has other ideas! :(
I wonder if the carbs I was eating pre-diagnosis helped to mask or "soak up" the effects of the solanine....
In fact, this morning I have discovered that blueberries also have the same effect, and so does nicotine. No, I don't smoke, but apparently cauliflower contains nicotine (who knew?!!!). Yep, we had cauliflower with dinner last night too.
Oh well, lesson learned - it appears I can tolerate one or two of them, but NOT all together.
I hope this helps other arthritis sufferers... maybe we should start a new thread!
Hugs xx

Good information here Debra, I love roasted med veg too, did not know they affect arthritis though, you learn something every day. I think also that the carbs we ate before diagnosis did mask the effects now I think bout it. Oh well carry on as normal, by the way I am addicted to the homemade lemon curd , I make up of it is supposed to last a month doesn't with me sometimes HA HA !!:) but I guess we have to have something to look forward too.

26/6/16 Good Morning from a unsettled York. Poured down with rain last night, but we needed it badly. Sky is grey and looks like there could be more to follow. Hope you are all well today and enjoy the day.:)

We had a great day, thank you so much for asking, the Motown show was absolutely fantastic, the singing, dancing and the story of how Berry Gordy started Motown, awesome :joyful: One of the best show's I have seen, I would recommend it.
I hope you all had a lovely day, especially those who were sitting at a desk  and yes, I had lots of fun  :p

Good morning, another beautiful sunny day here in C Scotland. We've had a run of days with sunny mornings and evenings and rainy afternoons since last Friday so that gardens are flourishing. Have a good day all

Hi Debra, could not have put it better myself. I live for this site and all the lovely people on it. Do not think I would be were I am today without it. Also I love your and others recipes and food choices. Yes we all get a bit down at times dealing with the diabetes and dealing with life as well. We do not need medals we just need all to stick together, that is the best support we have. :)

You would of loved it, it was amazing from start to finish, how I managed to sit still until the end I don't know. very happy memories and I still have the tickets. I hope you will be able to see this or something similar, one day :joyful:
