Good sources of fats?

Hey guys,

Managing T2 on a largely low-carb diet. I am struggling to find things to replace reduce protein as the source of my macronutrient. The only foods that I am currently eating that are higher in good fats and low in carbs:

1. Avocados
2. Cheeses (double brie is my favourite)
3. Tree nuts/seeds - almonds, walnuts, cashews, Chia and pumpkin seeds (mix of fats and protein)
4. High protein, high fat, low carb yoghurts
5. ????????

For carbs, I go with generous helpings of brocolli, brussel sprouts, leafy greens, bell peppers (all the non-starchy vegs). For protein, it's all varieties but I eat Chicken and Fish most often, with the occasional beef/pork.

Trying to cut back on protein as it puts extra strain on the kidneys. I don't have any kidney issues and I'd prefer to keep it that way.

Any other high good fat foods I could be missing out?

I thought this was an issue only when the kidneys are impaired already. I might be wrong about that though.

I'm with @Antje77 on this one

When I saw higher fats promoted in the LCHF.. it was an "oh no"... moment for me...

But as I dipped deeper & deeper into LCHF ....ALL..I say ALL my lipids dropped into the optimal bracket within 6 months, after having spent a little over 8 years of the basics of the EATWELL diet making barely dent

I was sold ...BUT I didn't go overboard hunting lard etc

It simply was as @Antje77 points out
Meat with the fat left on..yum
Given the choices of zero/low fat or unadulterated products , I went au natural.

Butter not chemically enhanced chemicals masquerading as 'butter'.

Avocados fur me too, became a pleasant addition to my food regime.

Low carb jelly & double cream or Greek yoghurt topping off many meals where I was still hungry.

Simple version...

No low fat anything
The original when there is a choice to choose anything but the " I can't believe it's not butter .." imitation game. (ps..it isn't )

And meat untrimmed in a its glory ...nom nom nom.

Good luck finding what works for you .

No, you are right - It seems to be another one of those things accepted but it doesn't add up when investigated.
I am becoming quite bewildered about claims made with regard to the effects of diet which seem to be totally without foundation. I read that excess protein did not cause kidney disease in Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - written 20 years ago at least. He claimed that there had never been any study done nor a specific case study of a single instance - not where kidney disease was not already present.
I have recently read of a case of kidney disease reversing on a keto diet - but it was only on the internet so who'd believe anything on there eh?

I might have used the wrong word. Instead of "replace", I meant to use the word "Reduce".

I’d suggest sticking to fat attached to protein so fattier cuts of meat or oily fish. Protein is incredibly important so that way you’ll likely increase fat over protein but still consume enough protein.

source of my macronutrient.

If we eat the the food our species has evolved to eat over the last 300,000 years, we shouldn't have to worry about the macronutrients.
We will be getting all the protein, fats and roughage we need to thrive, in exactly the right ratio's.
When you are hungry, eat real food and avoid highly processed stuff that has been mass produced with profits in mind not our wellbeing.

If you don’t have any kidney issues eating protein is extremely unlikely to cause any, even someone with stage 1 & 2 CKD are advised to eat normal protein just like someone who has no issues.

Out of interest how are counting you’re protein?, you may already know this but it’s worth mentioning that the amount of protein isn’t the weight of the meat e.g.) a 180g chicken breast has approximately 43g protein
