GP trouble!

Is anyone else's gp closed for three and a half hours in the middle of the day?
What is the point in this?!

It takes ages to get through to somebody on the phone and when you do you get put on hold for ages afterwards to be told that if you want an appointment in the afternoon you have to ring back at 3:45 when they're open again to book one. So you have to go through the whole waiting process again!!

THEN when you finally get in to see the doctor he writes out other people's prescriptions whilst you're in your appointment! Should he not be writing theses prescriptions out when he's closed!!

I went in there once and he was on Facebook (I could see his computer screen) and he had somebody's death certificate on his desk! Not very professional at all!

Late onset T1, several auto immune issues.
Humalogmix25 twice a day, Methotrexate 25mg once per week, FolicAcid 5mg once per week, prednisolone 5mg daily, Allopurinol 300mg, Calcichew-D3 800iu, Levothyroxine 50mcg, Atenolol 50mg, Losarten 100mg, Aspirin 75mg, Nicorandil 20mg, Nitrolingual GTN spray, Metformin 2000mg, Allimemazine 10mg, Lanzoprazole 30mg, Atorvastatin 20mg, Co Codamol 8/500mg, Depo Medrone (Methylprednisolone) or double Prednisolone for 7 days in case of RA flare.
 
I'm seriously thinking about it.

I understand that they're busy and everything and I don't mind waiting for my appointment if they're running behind.

I don't understand why they are closed for so long and I don't feel as though I'm getting their full attention when I am in my appointment.

I don't really want to change because he's been my gp since I was born but I think his standard of care has really dropped :(

loyalty when it comes to the NHS is a waste of time I find. Do what you need to for you Indiana :angelic:
 
My Old GP used to finish all his surgery by 2.30 so he could go play golf he rang me one day and asked me to go in a bit earlier so he could get away a bit earlier he had my prescription almost written out when I got there
there certainly not like they used to be
 
Oh my god, I would be moving my surgery if I got that treatment. My surgery closes for an hour at lunchtime, you start to ring for an appointment from 8.00, then if their aren't any free you can a sit and wait from 5.00 that eve, but you do have to ring back before or just after lunch. They close at 6.30 and do Saturday appointments system and on a Monday morning they start at 7.00am.

Complain to the Practice Manager and to the PPG

Anybody wanting to change GP's should look up their GP Practice reviews on nhs choices website first and see if there is a better choice.

Dont forget in October this year that you can change your GP to one nearer to where you work... This may well be worth looking at if your current GP is not good.

PPG's are not allowed to handle individual complaints. They can only survey Patients and ask GP's to respond with improvements for their Patients... Which GP's can ignore if they wish.

Options to complain should be on your GP website. To the Practice Manager first or their next steps as stated in their Complaints policy and peocedures. You can complain to the CQC.

How would being near your work do if you needed a house visit?
 
I've heard that there's a really good gp that's good at diabetes care because my cousin goes there. Might see if I can move to that one.

Ours is often closed for a few hours for staff training, why the whole surgery needs to be closed is a mystery.

Mine is closed from 12 to 15:45 every day and they're only open half a day on a Thursday.
I really can't see the point! They seem to be closed more than they're open!

That's a lot, no chance you can change gp surgery's?
 
That's what I'm thinking about doing, I'm going to research around my area but I have one in mind :)
