Hi guys,
Sorry about this rant, but I'm gobsmacked by my docs attitude and wondered if anyone could shed some light on a few things he dismissed out of hand.
Firstly he flatly denied the existence of liver dump/dawn phenomena.
He dismissed all the hypothyroid symptoms I have (am on levothyroxine, but don't think it's any good) as symptoms of the menopause.
Finally he reviewed my blood test and described my liver function results as 'deranged', but didn't want to do further tests as he feels it's all caused by erratic bg levels.
Is it me? Am I just being a hypochondriacal whinger or is my urge to slap him justified?

He sounds like a proper knobhead-know-it-all ... How ever did you not smack him on the nose... hehe
The Liver is one of the major players in BG control.

Hi Ness, I agree with all of the above. You really must see another Doctor or ask to be referred to a Diabetiologist at your local hospital as you are not getting the treatment you need. Regarding your Hypothyroidism, you should be having at least annually bloods taken to measure your Thyroid Function (TFT's) and these will dictate the correct dose of Levothyroxine to be taken. I also feel that you should have liver function tests repeated in another 3 months if they were "deranged", this is what would happen my surgery. Don't be put off by this doctor you must see someone who knows what he's talking about, best of luck

Thanks so much all - he really made me feel like a neurotic pest and your responses have made me feel much, much better.
I'm due to see my endo in April, so I 'll take the thyroid and liver queries to him.
As for seeing a different gp, my doc has his own practice (just him), so I ve put off changing because it means finding another surgery (they're a bit few and far between out here in the Welsh boonies), but I think you're right Totsy and Diadeb, he needs to go!

Thanks again,

Ness x

Fight! Fight! Fight! i love a good grrr thread :) but shouldnt let my excitement of you punching your doc detract from your bad experience :( sorry, i agree with all above

Keep on nagging Vanessa, it is your body and your medical problems that should be sorted by your GP team . Good luck matey :)

Ness, ask for a referral over to the diabetes clinic at your local hospital, for obvious reasons they are much more knowledgeable there and you won't have to see your gp again for your diabetes check, if the hospital ask or question why you've been referred over to their care just tell them what you've said above.
