Hi All
I've been on low carb diet now for several months. I've lost some weight and reduced my HbA1C from 63 to 46. However my weight loss stalled so I wanted to get the weight shifted ASAP. I've just subscribed to Habitual as it's an 800 diet targeted at diabetics and reversing type 2. On low carb my fasting blood sugar got down to 4.6 - 5.7.

I've been on Habitual since Monday and my fasting blood sugar has been 7.5 and 7.8. Looking closely at the ingredients most of the food has glucose syrup in it including the soups and the one has caramelised sugar syrup. I challenged the company today and they advised they have to keep the carbs up to a certain level. I can't see any reason why they can't use other diabetic friendly carbs like sweet potatoes especially in the soups. My understanding is pure glucose syrup is bad and its exactly what we are trying to stop from being in our blood.

Am I being unreasonable and is there any good reason to add it?

Thanks all.

Dave

If it was me I would scrap them and go back to what I was doing before as it was working. Weight loss is great but bs are more important in my opinion.

Why do you want to shift the weight so quickly? Weight loss is never a straight line, maybe you need to change your food up a bit. You mention sweet potato being diabetic friendly, they have a lot of carbs which turn to sugars. All carbs turn to sugar.

What do you eat normally? Do you count your carbs? We may be able to help you tweak your food a bit. Lots of us here eat a low carb or keto diet which can also help with weight loss. You’ve done great so far, it’s been said it’s a marathon not a sprint and it has to be sustainable

It was working and then just stopped. I lost a stone all in all and i'm now 19.3. Been this for weeks and more importantly my visceral fat has just dropped one point. This was my aim my doing this plan was to drop weight and visceral fat. My son is doing ligherlife, he is not diabetic but has gone from 22 stone down to 18 stone in 3 months and looks incredible. He was my motivation but i've worked to get my HbA1C down my fasting sugar over the last few days has freaked me out. The plan has also kicked me out of ketosis so I'm hungry. On low carb I was eating eggs, lean meat, fish, broccoli, cheese in moderation, cream in moderation, berries in moderation, full fat yogurt, cucumber, tomatoes, spinach. Appreciate your help and views.

Cheers Dave

Totally agree with @lucylocket61 I’ve always had to count calories as well as carbs, reducing calories as I lost weight., I used to find eating too much dairy could stall my weight loss, Try going back to what you were eating and logging calories as well, see if there is anything you can do from there. I reduced my fats from dairy to a minimum and upped my protein a bit.

I put on weight during lockdowns by overeating the good stuff, mainly fats and dairy. I did a reset about 6 weeks ago with the five day soup diet from “I breathe I’m hungry” a great site for low carbing it’s about 1200 calories and strict but doable. Just Google 5 day soup diet and you should find it. I lost a few pounds and since then I worked out my calorie deficit (lots of sites to do this) and I’ve lost more weight. I don’t weigh myself often, about once a month but I’m back in my pre lockdown wardrobe and still losing.

E.T.A. Link to the soup diet and loads of other tasty stuff :)
