Has any one tried Almased? does it work long term? I'm a typical YO-YO dieter and I am Type 1.

Hi, not been on this forum before and not quite sure what I'm doing. I have been overweight since my early forties and have tried most diets. I do feel that my diabetes plays a big part in my obesity but Im no always met with sympathy or any constructive advice, other than get your BGs under control and eat less calories than you burn. I believe all diets work if you stick to them, but sticking to them is a huge problem for me.

I have type 2 and tried Almased. It doesn't taste nice so I mix it with a few blueberries which doesn't make much difference.I replaced 2 meals a day and had 2 small meals and a healthy snack. I did'nt lose any weight.Tried it for 2 weeks and then gave up.

Don't know anything about Almased unfortunately, but it's true if you burn more calories than you consume then you will lose weight, ask to see a Dietitian when your next at your diabetes clinic and they will look at your diet and advise on losing weight. Good luck!!!!

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that. I've been reading about the trial that was done earlier this year. People reported a lowering blood glucose as well as feeling well and energised. I may give it a go just for those reasons.
How long ago did you try it and have you found something that works now?

Cheers x

I found the flavour pleasant (especially with added cocoa) but thought it was very expensive. Long term, it would get ridiculous. I was using it as a late night meal to avoid going to bed hungry.

I used 2 tubs, but won't buy any more. When I tried it for breakfast a few mornings it made me feel dreadful - foggy headed, sleepy and almost incapable of functioning at work. I think it must have been a reaction to the soya, and because I had been taking it at night, I had slept through the symptoms. Can't imagine it was good for me, though.

It was fine for my BG though. Even making it up with half milk, half water and a teasp cocoa powder it only put my BG up by 1 to 2 (e.g. From 5.5 to 6.5).

Hi, I've just finished the two week trial on Almased. I've lost ten pounds and felt fantastic! My energy levels went through the roof, nails grew, hair looked great and I really liked the taste of it! First few days I was unsure about the taste, it's not unpleasant but then I got a taste for it and really enjoyed it so much so I've bought some and I'm continuing with it! My blood sugars were constantly stable throughout the two weeks. I did write a blog for it so you might find reading that helpful. Look for "Amanda's first day on Almased" on the diabetes blog. I found the nutritionist at Almased very helpful during the two weeks. Ooh and I also won an iPad for my blog!! Happy days all round!
