Has LCHF/diabetes changed where/how you shop?

I use ground almonds blended again to get finer flour but didn't have much success with anything else.

I also buy psyllium husk and polenta because I haven't got a clue what to do!!

I still have to buy some avocado's if I want to bake them as a souffle with egg whites mixed with the avocado and then put back in the skins to bake.

Its only thanks to people here talking about avocados and olives that I started to experiment. I needed more fat in my diet but saturated fat from cheese and cream crucified my cholesterol levels. Now for the first time in years my total is under 5.0 and my ratios are great. Same with hubby whose cholesterol with heavy saturated fats - he went on statins but totally off them now.....:):)
Yes, I think in the beginning a bit of experimentation is required! I've always turned my nose up at avocados but maybe I'll like them. It was the case with olives (the green ones at least)!

I use supermarkets and freezer shops to buy regular food.

Foods that I didn't buy before diagnosis, such as chia, psylium and coconut flour, I order online from Bulk Powders.

I buy weird ingredients online too when I cannot find them locally (tomato powder, liquid smoke, veggie sugar-free jelly, for example).

There is so much choice nowadays :)
Thank God for the internet, I say! I managed to find tomato powder and liquid smoke in the shops but I know for the various spices used in Indian food I linke I either have to order them online or get them in Paris. There is so much choice in general, we're very fortunate!

My food shopping has changed totally - but in a great way! We have a weekly Ocado order delivered on Friday (no naughty purchases then while in the supermarket hungry!), so am ready for the weekend. Everything we buy gets eaten now, the veggies are now longer going to waste. Cupboards are turning over and everything getting used. I've found lots of LCHF foods (Peters Yard crackers if you love your cheese, only 2 carbs each!) and discovering new recipes.

In 6 weeks since diagnosis I've lost over half a stone, down to sub 12 stone for first time in years. So all this healthy eating is good for you!

Need to head further afield to Lidl for those protein rolls, Camden branch doesn't do them sadly ... :(

Generally my food shopping has only improved - no more "I don't want the healthy stuff, I want a pie" evenings.
I can see what you mean about food waste, I'm buying less and more often in order to get the freshest stuff. Thanks for the tip about the crackers, I do love me some cheese :-)

Congrats on your weight loss!

I shop in Asda Lidl and the bigger supermarkets when there are things I can't get in the other two. I haven't changed my shopping very much as I always did buy mostly fresh food and vegetables and cooked our meals from scratch, Never ones for ready or processed frozen foods the only frozen stuff I may buy is the vegetables and the only thing that has really changed is the amount of cakes biscuits and the sweet yogurts I used to buy for my husband who had a really sweet tooth....hardly ever ate those myself... now he is T2 and he can no longer have them

It's good to be able to pick and choose from a range of shops to get the best bargains, the best produce and also the best variety :-)

Peters Yard crackers sound fab but just checked the price...ooouch!

I still shop in the same places, but do go to Lidl more often (you KNOW why!) and I am definitely cooking from scratch more. As somebody mentioned, I have to take my specs with me as I do read every (tiny) label, looking for the carb value! I've also become a little more adventurous, maybe - cauliflower mash, celariac chips etc!

Only real difference, I now shop at Lidl for protein rolls, it's a 4 mile walk I do twice a month, It's also up a very steep hill so it's a well earned treat, I only buy four at a time but slice into 4s so lasts 16 days.
Other than that I use all the same shops and supermarkets, I'm just buying totally different foods from before.

I haven't changed where I shop but I buy a lot less bread and pasta haha and purchase a lot more vegetables. I check the labels more often but I buy very little prepared food now it's really only for emergency food. I pick up a few more items from health food stores I suppose

I saw frozen avocados mentioned on this forum, so I made a trek to my nearest Tesco which is a bit difficult to get to via 2/3 buses. I found the last pack of frozen avocados on the shelf (£2.50 for 9 halves, peeled and stoned). Wonderful! I also found that this Tesco sell frozen Methi (fenugreek), Coriander, Green Chillis and Kale, at around £1 each. I really need to get a bigger freezer.

I took two halves of frozen avocado out the night before needing them for my salad.... They were horrible and just went to complete mush..

Perhaps they would be better taken out just a few hours before hand??

Otherwise I now have to use the remainder of the two bags for chocolate mousse.....

Thanks for the warning @donnellysdogs. I haven't thawed any yet, but will only do so an hour or so before I am going to use them. If they do turn to mush I'll make them into guacamole.
