Hi. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes back in 2021. I have been for my annual HBA1c test and it came back at 47mmol. I was advised to have this repeated 3 weeks later, which I had on the 11th of April. It is now 48mmol. I am awaiting official diagnosis from the Dr's.

Is there anything I can do to lower this, what is the liklihood of me being put on medication?

You are only just into the diabetes range. I would expect that removing some of the higher carb sources from your diet would drop you back into normal numbers, and you could argue for that if your GP suggests tablets. Not everyone reacts badly, but for those of us who do it can be really miserable - with no chance of increasing exercise, due to being tied to the bathroom.

Hi - I was diagnosed with a similar HbA1c - 50 in September 2019, 49 in January 2020. I was offered metformin and refused, and instead went seriously low carb, at ~20g/day.

My HbA1c was 36 by April 2020. I haven't had a non-normal HbA1c since the one in January 2020.

You're just barely in the diabetic range, which is good. Like the others said, if you manage to cut some carbs, your numbers will likely drop back into the pre-diabetic or normal range. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help a bit with the basics, but I doubt you'll have to go as far as described there.

Hang in there.
