Its taken a while and a lot of patience but my Hba1c is now 6.5, at its highest it was 8.2 but gradually been coming down over the last year. Hopefully I can maintain this for at least a while with my current regime of lowish GI diet and lots of exercise my current tablets 240mg Glicazide + 500mg SR Metformin.
Hopefully I will be able to stave off going onto insulin for a while yet. though my consultant expects that I probably will end up on insulin in a few years time
6.5 is lower than when I was first diagnosed about 2 yrs ago. This website has been a great help to me mainly in terms of keeping me going without getting to fed up.
I appreciate that I can not just sit back and expect it to stay this way without maintaining a fairly healthy lifestyle, though I still do enjoy the odd square or two of dark chocolate which fortunately does not seem to spike my BGs.
To all those that have been recently diagnosed there is hope after diagnosis it just takes a bit of will power and patience.
