Assuming you're T2 or pre-diabetic, the blog catinahat linked above will keep you right: I was 16 stone, 5'10", so quite similar. I got my weight and blood sugars right down by cutting carbs. I'm pretty confident you will also be able to make big improvements if you cut carbs as well.

Greetings @Mickeyd

Might not seem like it now but you can count yourself fortunate to have been caught at the lowest rung of the diagnostic ladder.
Like you I was obese, in fact I was morbidly obese, BMI 42 at diagnosis with a HbA1c of 52.

Hit low carb & 30 mins walking a day & the weight fell off.
Blood glucose normalised too, it's doable but you got to keep it up.

You are pretty much exactly where I was in December 2019. You might want to have a look at my blog. Low carb works really well for me and I was back in normal blood range in 3-4 months. Others have made much bigger reductions just as quickly. Weight continues to fall, more than 20 kilo off now. With a bit of luck, you can do the same. You won't be hungry and you will feel a lot better.

Put simply, the low carb lifestyle is no potatoes, pasta, rice, flour (bread/pastry), sugar. For me it's almost no fruit as well. It is not a one-off diet - I expect to be living this way indefinitely.

And - forget the standard "healthy eating advice" you will get from the health service, your family and friends, and the media.

best of luck, this can be a really helpful place.
