Afternoon all, I hope that you are all well and staying safe.

I was a T2 my BS refused to lower on Metformin and other pills, my ketones were getting higher and higher and I fell into a DKA and ended up in Hospital foe a week (dont even remember getting there and woke up 36 hours later with a tube were it shouldn’t been and drips hanging off me from each arm)

Fast forward 4 months I’m now a T1 and on insulin’s for meals and a back ground one.

I was given a goal to reach between 5-7 to which I achieved BUT didn’t feel right, i explained this to my DN and she was great with it i have just had my review and my HbA1c is 72 or 8.7 in old money and I feel fantastic and my Keto is 0.0-0.1

Has anyone else out there had the same when trying to reach the recommended levels and what is the average HbA1c out there with the general population

SO AT THE MOMENT IM CHUFFED with my 8.7%

You're doing a great job in finding your feet.
The NICE guideline for type 1 diabetes advises an HbA1c target of 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) to minimise the risk of long term vascular complications.

Thank you for your kind words I’m going to try and get an 8 and see how I feel, like I mentioned I think 5-7 is to low for me

When I was first diagnosed, I used to feel fantastic when my blood sugars were above 20 mmol/l. Now I get that same feeling when they're 5 mmol/l. It just takes time for the new lower normal to kick in and to feel great.

If your body is used to higher readings, anything lower that 5 to 7 may feel "wrong". As your body normalises again, you should be able to reduce it a tad more.

Great results so far.

I agree with the others. If your levels were vey high then your body regards high readings as normal, and you are quite possibly getting false hypo sensations at normal levels of 5-7. As your readings lower and your body gets used to normal readings again then the false hypo feelings will go away. And if your readings have been very high for a long time then there are benefits to normalising them gradually rather than suddenly.

Well done on getting the hang of the new diagnosis. It's just a shame that you had to go into DKA before the medical system realised that you were misdiagnosed. (Happens all too often with T1s unfortunately).

Have you had some real hypos yet (blood sugar under 4)?
