You can buy a machine called an A1c now I think it is. @Debandez has used one so I’m sure she could post a link for you.
I just input my data from finger pricks into the app called MySugr. Once you’ve put in enough data it will provide an estimate. I hasten to add it is only an estimate but is good for watching trends up or down. My last lab test was 32 while MySugr showed 29.2 so not far off.

£2000 seems about right for a dependable "point of care" A1c tester. The "A1c now" is cheap but dose not give a result that is dependable enough for clinical use other then for screening to find who should have a full A1c blood test.
If you take enough reading with a BG meter and the readings are at time where your BG is at a adverage level, then software can work out a predicted A1c.
However I question if a predicted A1c is of any use, personally I consider 2hr post meal BG to be much better for type2 and "time in range" for type1.

Most people get enough information from a cheap BG Meter with cheap test strips.
Testing Before and 2hrs after meals. Now I pretty much know the effect of all my usual meals, I test much less frequently.
No need to even spend £20 on a meter or more than £8 per 50 test strips.
I use the Tee2+ from Spirit Healthcare, but the SD CodeFree ( available from Amazon) is around the same price.

Hba1c is an indication of your average blood glucose level - so it is of little real use for someone trying to minimize spikes or hypos - most diabetics, in other words.
50 is the average of 48 and 52, but also the average of 30 and 70 - and 20 and 80 - and 10 and 90.
Far better to check your level after eating to see if you are getting spikes, then doing something to reduce them if you are.
