HbA1c

Thankyou.Doc has taken me off linagliptin 5mg and put me on sitagliptin 100mg without seeing me!
Wow, hope it suits. The pharmacist at the chemist next to my surgery has been trying to talk to me as I was on a ‘new’ medication. I got a 2nd call while I was away, difficult to hear , rather lacking in privacy, but it seems the pharmacy is bound by government rule to phone the patient and follow up the new medication. The chap said he’d ring me again in a couple of weeks Without any blood tests i could tell f it’s doing anything.
Decided to wear Libre monitors which I have to fund, to check my levels and what I eat.
The surgery has announced they are cancelling routine appointments to address flu sufferers, so that’s it, who knows how one gets checks.

Morning - me again. These last few months since I last posted have gone by in a flash, can't believe its getting close to a year since I lost my mum.
Been put on BP meds ramipril 2.5 and amlodipine 5mg which have brought my bp down but my ankles swell sometimes in this heat - probably a side effect.
Last HbA1c 13/5/26 was 51 so no real change. I'd not changed my diet as I have felt okay but I have recently been trying the low carb thing again and I feel better for it so I'm going to keep at it.
I have 2 questions - what is a good number for your morning skin prick test? Mine this morning was 7mmol, first time I have tested in years!
I have been getting cramp in my feet and my calf in the middle of the night - I'm not dehydrated, could it be T2 related? Does anyone else get this? I'm sure the GP will tell me it is related.
Actually 3 questions - does stress play a part in morning test results?
Many thanks Lyn xx

Morning readings can be higher due to the dawn phenomenon, not sure about the cramp, and stress does cause bg to rise including illness, diet, meds and basically life! Sorry about your mum its never easy. Be a bit easier on yourself if what I tell myself ;)

Sorry for your loss @crownlyn

In 16 years I’ve never gotten a low enough foot on the floor finger prick test, no matter what I do I’m always in the mid 6 or low sevens. There’s not much I can do about that one no matter how hard I try so now I rarely test that one. I will now & again when I’m doing a week of full testing just to make sure I’m still happy where I am - my HbA1c is always 46/47/48

As to the cramps I get those too, I’m not sure what it’s down to or if it’s connected to diabetes, I don’t get them all the time but sometimes when I’ve been on my feet all day or done a lot of walking. I find using a magnesium spray at night really helps, just a few squirts on bottom of both my legs & rubbed in. I’ve also seem some members say they take magnesium orally but I prefer the spray

Epsom salt baths with the magnesium spray is a miracle when my back plays up

I don’t have a bath lol - i don’t live in a shed or dirty just walk in showers in the bath rooms lol
Me too just showers at home but I have a no frills foot bath and if having cramps - I find they happen over several nights when they come back -I soak my feet in warm water and Epsom salts before bed - it really helps the leg and foot cramps for me. I also take magnesium before bed daily as I'm prone to cramps. My mum used to suffer from cramps too. I'm not sure what causes mine but notice that they happen more often in extreme weather (this hot weather it may be dehydration and in winter if my feet get very cold it can trigger foot cramp).

@crownlyn I get leg cramps. They are very painful. I do have fluctuating magnesium levels, so my Dr informed me. My potassium levels are always bumping along at the bottom of the minimum lab range. Potassium is of course an electrolyte. Either of those may cause leg cramps. I take daily vitamin and mineral supplements. Avocados are rich in potassium, far more so than bananas , so I tend to eat avocados they do help with my leg cramps.

Thanks all, will add avocado to my diet, didn't know they were high in potassium and I'll buy the magnesium spray and Epsom salts to try.
Also a non bather here lol.
I see @Lainie71, @shelley262 and @lovinglife are diet only/reversed diabetes. Have any of you put your stories on this forum somewhere as I like to read these? Liver down from 78 to 41 - is that serum lipids (I'm asking as I have a fatty liver).
Many thanks again for the replies x
