Hi, I've just had my second blood test and I rang the health centre for the results.
Back in September my fasting test came back as 8 and since then I've been trying diet control rather than meds.
As there was no nurse or doctor available the receptionist gave me the result and asked me to call back for an explanation. Though she did say no further action required.
My hba1c came back as 46.
I haven't a clue what that means.
Anyone help me out on that, its a long wait till tomorrow. Thanks Ross

7.5 mmol or 6.4%

well done, your going in the right direction :thumb up:

I'm learning how to use a new mac computer and can't figure out cut and paste (Grrr) if you put "converter" in the search bar at the top it will show you the duk converter, easy as pie to use (low carb pie that is hehe)

Thanks for the reply Andy12345.
7.5 mmol. I was hoping it would be a lot lower.
I've been reading as many threads as I can on this fantastic Forum and try to follow the good advice of many.
I have been testing myself only in the mornings though and I've been getting results of between 5 and 6.7. Mainly high 5's to mid 6's.
I didn't test on the morning of the blood test.
Ive lost 2 stone in weight and am down to nearly 10 1/2.
Ive been careful with what I am eating.
I am a little disappointed, feels I am back to square one.
Oh well, must try harder.
Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the uplift.
I used to have a very sweet tooth,I loved my cakes, biscuits, sweets, chocolate and for the past 3 months I've cut them out along with bread, potatoes, rice etc.
The weight has just fallen off by not eating thise types of food.
From day one I've followed good advice from this forum and changed how I live and eat.
I'm probably being unrealistic but I did expect to achieve a lower result.
Well, itll be six months until my next test I suppose, gives me something to work to.
A few tweaks here and there.

I think most people would be happy as Larry with that improvement, Ross, and I'd echo the congratulations of the others.

I don't think you need to beat yourself up about it, because HbA1c is difficult to translate in terms of BG readings we're taking ourselves, and if you're only using a morning reading it's going to be pretty nigh impossible because you'll be missing the peaks and troughs of the other 23hrs+ each day.

BTW, HbA1c is explained at: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html

There is a way to approximate your HbA1c from the average of your own BG readings and the calculator is at: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-to-bloo ... erter.html. However, that raises the question of how many readings/day and at what times they would need to be taken to give a reasonable average for the calculation to work on? It's probably not possible to say, for the same reason you're finding it difficult to reconcile your HbA1c, using morning readings only, missing out spikes and troughs in BG that go unnoticed between readings, but I'd be interested if anyone has worked something out.

That is an excellent result and well done on your weight loss. You have done wonders for your health in such a short time.

Keep up the terrific work.

Hi. That's a very good result so you're doing the right things. I would tend to test less in the mornings and more 2 hours after a meal (and before if you can afford the strips). Morning fasting tests can be affected by liver dumps and don't tell you which foods affect you most.

Thanks for all the replies. Now a few hours have passed I've had a chance to calm down and look more positively at my results. Better down than up.
Thank you all, what lovely people you are showing care and compassion to complete strangers like me.

Thank you all.
Just spoken to my diabetic nurse who has confirmed what all you lovely people have told me.
:D
Found this conversion table.
Sept test= 8. 8-2.15 ×10.929 =64
Dec test=46 46 - 10.929 + 2.15= 6.5 (rounded up)

September (8) December (6.5)
September (64) December (46)
I feel much better now, knowing I'm heading in the right direction.
If I can do it so can anyone with the help of this Forum.
