Hi, this may sound silly but what do you have for lunch and what can I eat for lunch to help lose weight? I need some ideas...

At the moment I have a sandwich (mediumslice white , bread, 2 slices) with ham or turkey or tuna for example then an apple or banana. I also like crackers and cheese. Is that bad?

I'll leave the question of what "healthy" means to one side - I'll just say that what is officially recommended as "healthy" eating is positively damaging to me.

Are you trying to lose weight via low-carb or low calorie? I have no experience of weight loss via low calorie (because it didn't ever work), but a very low carb approach (~20g/day) has shifted around 30kg for me over the last three or four years.

So your lunch - that's quite a lot of carbs there. The meat/fish and cheese is fine - everything else would be too many carbs for me. A 25g slice of bread is ~12g carb, so with two that's 24. Add the apple (20) or the banana (27) and it's about 50g total, which is over twice what I'd have in a day. I wouldn't have crackers with the cheese, as they're also about 60% carb.

You might find these links useful - one is on this forum.

Although T1s can compensate for higher carb meals. I found low carb was much better for losing weight than calorie counting. And most of it stayed off unlike my usual post diet weight gain on low calorie diets.

A ”healthy” diet ot “weight loss” diet for someone with Type 1 is the sale as a “healthy” or “weight loss“ diet for someone without diabetes.
Low carb is an option but not to reduce insulin or manage insulin resistance but as a weight loss option for someone without diabetes could adopt.

It is completely irrelevant whether 20g or 25g or more is too many carbs for someone with type 2 or even someone with Type 1 who has not found the best insulin regime for them.
Describing the diet of someone with Type 1 as ”quite a lot of carbs” without knowing their insulin regime and whether it works for them is unnecessarily judgemental.
It is completely irrelevant whether someone with type 2 has found a low calorie diet that works for them.

If you are looking to lose weight with Type 1, I would recommend trying a diet and sticking with it to see if it works for you.
This could be low carb or low calorie or …

For me, a low-carb lifestyle has been a game changer. I’ve been doing something similar to you—keeping it super low carb, around 20g per day, and I've managed to shed quite a bit of weight over the past couple of years. It's really helped me feel better and more energized.
