BS before food 4.4 - 45 minutes later 9.4 !!!!1 this is the worst reading I have had in a month
Yes, plants do contain carbohydrates. As in every type of café, some choices are lower carb than others.Where was your BG 90 mins to 2 hours postprandial?
If you're thinking that your resultant "higher than ideal" BG was because of hidden carbs, then you'll need to accept that as it's pretty much unavoidable when you eat out.
Last time I checked, vegans still eat carbohydrates - but they do avoid animal produce. Also, just because the food contained a sufficient quantity of carbs to aggravate your BG - certainly does not make it "unhealthy".
You wont find meat in a vegan café.but no carbs in meat....

Are you aiming for zero carb? Try the water lolno and very few non-carb choises I would guess too

They would have a harder time if they had to catch the meat themselves. Plants are easier as they don't run awayNo I am actually okay with a lot of vegetarian foods.. and enjoy so many exsotic foods that are available nowadays... in new and fancy restaurants, but some people are so diabetic that they cannot eat carbs almost and they would have a really hard life surviving if not meat was available.. I only eat meat like once a week..
For me it's not always just about what I eat but quantity. I find tend to eat more when dining out or entertaing. As much as I would like to believe that I can eat as much as I want as long as it's LCHF, quantity does also impact my BG.The thing that surprised me most was that I
had a vegetable bake with cheese , a pea soup and i told them to leave off the pasta , the sweet potato and the rice . so as far as i was aware i was eating a low carb , vegetarian dish .
I have eaten all of the identifiable ingredients before with no issues and my afternoon meals rarely cause more than a 2 mmol spike . I cannot imagine what actual ingredient could have caused the issue to be honest . Ive made my own cheese sauces with flour and not caused any spike at all.
There are far too many variables to account for here @CherryAA. The reality is, you will never know the exact ingredients and their quantities - so there could be 100 different reasons as to why your BG was a little higher than normal. And that's just related to the food part...The thing that surprised me most was that I

Cheese sauce in a vegan cafe? I don't think you can compare the ingredients in your homemade dairy cheese sauce with the ones you would find in a plant based meal. Vegan "cheese" sauce is often made from blended cashews or puréed root vegetables such as in the recipe below. Peas, although they grow above ground, are pretty high starchThe thing that surprised me most was that I

I drank water , i have a freestyle libre cgm so i watched the 5 mol spike develop and sit there before gradually coming back down . I ate a smallish plate of vegetables with cheese sauce . In a restaurant committed to whole foods and veganism . It seems pretty unlikely that they are feeding their customers sugar packed vegetable bakes! In the end it doesn't really matter , just that this is the very first time I've had a spike that makes no sense to me at all ! Fish and chips with curry sauce , and baked beans on toast both did lessvery wierd !
