hello Diabetes II control with chemotherapy 5:2 DIET Fasting

hello my 5th post
i was ill in autumn 2017, while searching blood tests revealed onset of type II Blood sugar of 49
diagonsed with Lymphoma classical nodular sclerosis stage 4 !! started chemo in early Feb 18, now halfway through 6 cycles ABVD.

At March my next test with diabetes nurse showed its now 44/45 so that's moving in the right direction.
Now another blood test showed my cholesterol was 5.7 which would be normal with HDL 1.3 thats good , but LDL 3.9 which GP Said was too high for diabetic and should be below 2.0 !!!!

offered me Statins which i refused my excuse being chemo conconction may be skewing results.
Now - as i'm off work till august i have been researching change of lifestyle re; keeping CANCER in remission.
I DON'T want any more pills and chemical inside me

started 5:2 fasting diet as this lowers by half the Insulin growth factor IFG-1 marker.
started this week (BMI is 27.7 was 30 before C) so want to reduce my fat levels to <24 BMI

This has the added benefit of putting your body into repair mode 'Keytosis' , as for years eating or over eating puts body into GOGO Mode Growing new cells.. as instead of cleaning the processed foods and toxins. Body can now focus on repairing ones body !!!

the Benefit of FASTING for life with 5:2 diet is Halving IFG-1 Stops vascular heart disease, stops 7 types of cancers , helps with diabetes and lowers the Bad cholesterol LDL levels.
fasting days are 500/600 calories women/man, else normal 2,300 etc

i want to beat diabetes and cancer through good food , non processed organic real food - it is costing us a fortune, better than pushing up daisies

comments please on Fasting and lower IGF-1 Levels in relation to diabetes type II control

apologies for the long post

thanks for sharing, seems you are doing the best you could choose to do, just want to wish all the best concerning the disease ... well done til now , send you a virtual hug dear...:):):):):)

life with 5:2 diet
Hi mark3evo,
I think you are looking at the wrong diet here.

I think the 5:2 Blood Sugar diet would be more what your after it's by the same author Dr Michael Mosley. Exactly the same idea intermittent fasting but with a greater focus on reducing blood sugar to reverse diabetes which in turn reduces cardio vascular issues.

IF I'm reading you right cancer cells thrive of sugar and reducing sugar is what you after.
Hope I'm not out of line suggesting this. ;)

hello "there is no spoon"

yes same author , i am off sugar, reduced carbs, we eat a no sugar bread, rtc you are correct in my opinion cancer does thrive on sugar, why do they leave sugar sweets in chemo room !!!!
Macmillan also say sugar has no nutritional content for cancer

i don't believe a word of it, big business funding sugar

i only have small portion of home made cake maybe once a week., no fast foods , choccy bars etc and after 4 months i have lost the desire for sugar
so i know i can reverse type II , next blood test and review in September
i'm certain Standard 5:2 fasting is pretty similar, and it seems fasting reduces the LDL Cholesterol over time.

i feel certain lymphoma and diabetes is linked same to visceral fat around gut, i did have a 46" waist , 38 hips , now 40" waist

the point was i'm sick of GP and diabetic nurse suggesting Statins is a good move... i don't want to succumb to gravy train of meds to cure the meds side effects

i'm a firm believer body can heal itself given the right condition

As a type two diabetic simply eating things with no sugar would have little effect - I need to eat low carb foods - as starch is converted to sugar straight away - as soon as it is in my mouth the amylase in saliva starts to convert it, and I can't deal with sugars.

thanks

i have had time to get my around it both, i know that without a life changing diet lifestyle its highly likley that within 5 years i'm 50% to get it again and then its curtains

i think i have found the right path to tread, positive i'll be around for another 20 years i;m 57 years old

yes i agree , carb portions are 1/3 rd of what i used to , no more rubber dried pasta , no rice
except some spelt grains and rolled oats

Well done on your progress so far. I admire your proactive attitude to your conditions.
I agree with you about the statins. While your body is coping with your conditions why throw another drug into the mix? Actively losing weight can skew your lipid values for a while and what some doctors seem unable to comprehend is that some people react quite badly to statins and it can affect quality of life, something you do not need whilst undergoing treatment for cancer on top of the challenges of improving blood glucose levels.
I wish you all the best and hope you become a regular contributor on the forum.

ketogenic diet very interesting , Fasting similar

"In an interview with US News, Prof Seyfried explained: "It's called ketogenic metabolic therapy ... the ketogenic diet shouldn't be considered a diet like green salads or other such stuff. It's essentially medicine, and the process primarily tries to remove one of the driving fuels for the disease, which is glucose, and transition the whole body over to ketones, which the tumour cells can't use as a fuel. So, it's very simple."

A ketogenic diet involves eating around 30g or less of carbohydrates per day, which encourages the body to get its energy from burning fat which produces an energy source known as ketones.

In people with diabetes, the diet has proven effective in helping with weight loss and normalising blood glucose levels. Earlier this year, the keto diet was shown to outperform a low fat diet among people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.

While the ketogenic diet has shown potential in shrinking some tumours, research has suggested that other melanomas use ketones to grow faster, and further research is required in order for a treatment protocol to be developed. "

You may find it helpful to look up on Dr Valter Longo, Dr Rhonda Patrick's highly informative interviews

Separately Dr Jason Fung uses intermittently successfully for years with thousands of his T2D patients.
