Hello everyone

Hi.
Were any of your symptoms dizziness or lightheadedness? If so because you suffer from anxiety which I have all my life, without realising it you can hyperventilate from your fast breathing causing your dizziness. Hope this helps :)

Yes I did explain my symptoms individually and the gp said, you are experiencing low blood sugar, which is then why I was sent for blood tests.

I'm back to the GP next week to talk again about my symptoms and hope they can help me. I've had a lot of blood work done but they couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Amazon for instance. Codefree and tee2 have the cheapest strips, from what I understand. And yes, a HbA1c can be off if you're iron-deficient, so that's another thing to test for.

You can't know whether you're having actual hypo's without a meter and testing right that moment. There's a bunch of things that can feel like a hypo while they're not, so yeah, a meter'd be an excellent idea! While T2's bloodsugars usually go up, not down, there is such a thing as reactive hypoglycemia in non-diabetics, so.... Do check, as that would in all likelyhood not show up in a HbA1c at all. And it'd be good to know what's going on. If bloodsugars are normal and in range all the time, there might be something else going on. Still good reason to see a GP.

Hi @Emz100,

Yes, there are a variety of issues that can impact HbA1c results, for example anaemia, iron deficiency, B12 deficiency and many more, some of which artifically increase HbA1c and others that decrease it. Here is a link to a number of factors that can affect HbA1c: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK304266/. Your GP should have checked for the most obvious ones.

This being said, I suspect most of these probably won't have a huge impact.

When I had the blood test, my iron level was on the low end of normal. The range to be in is between 13-200, and my reading was 19. So how does that sit with my hba1c reading? Would that mean it’s is reading lower than what it actually is? The reading was 35mmol.

The difference probably would've be that big... And 35 seems fine. Get that meter, check when you feel off, and take those results to your doctor. That's the best advice I can give you. Are you diabetic? I doubt it, but I am not a doctor and I can't diagnose. Bottom line is, you're not feeling well and there's got to be an answer for that somewhere. @Angengray has a point, a pani attack/anxiety can feel much the same. (And those can be treated too). You have to figure it out, and a meter can help you at least rule out of confirm a few things.

Pretty sure it’s not anxiety as I have had panic attacks previously and it’s not the same feeling. Thanks for the input though.
