Welcome to the forum @Alan51
You sound to have made a good start and joining the forum is a win win, was for me anyway.
I found the walking particularly good, work problem solving and exercise time.
Testing before and after meals to check responses to food was a good routine, which helped me exclude some food items.
|Good luck to that man.

Hi and welcome. It sounds like you are taking the right approach by cutting down on all the carbs which will help you lose weight and reduce blood sugar. Has the GP prescribed Metformin tablets yet? Occasionally people are mis-diagnosed as T2 when they are late onset T1. Your BS levels make that a possibility but as you have some excess weight it becomes less likely. See how your weight and BS go during the coming weeks on the low-carb diet. If the BS don't move down but your weight does it may be worth asking for the two tests for T1. BTW ketosis is when the body starts burning fat as it lacks the insulin to burn carbs (or doesn't get enough carbs). Ketosis by itself is fine but in the presence of high blood sugar can become dangerous and is called Ketoacidosis when the blood becomes acidic.

Hi there i am on 4 metformin a day

Hi and Welcome @Alan51

Congratulations on your weight loss and bringing down your BG levels since diagnosis. I agree with @hankjam that testing before and after meals is important to see which foods spike your levels and adjust your diet accordingly. For me white rice (or any rice) is a no go as it increases my levels significantly.

Great resource here so continue to post if you have any questions or concerns

Hello and welome,

you have found a great place for help advice and support. Like @muzza3 my body cannot tolerate anywhere near the carbs that rice has.

I also agree with @Daibell that I is possible you may have been misdiagnosed. At he moment if you are not open any blood sugar reducing medication I would recommend cutting your carb intake. A good start is to log your meals so you know what your current carb intake is like and then reducing g it and seeing what happens to your levels. I took the rather dramatic step of going under 10 grams of carbs a day- I'm an all or nothing person and find it easier with fewer carbs- not that I don't like them but I have learned my body is intolerant to them.

Good luck and welcome.

Hi folks I appreciate the help and information. Thing is I am not eating very much. 2 boiled eggs. No bread.
Dinner is 1 chicken breast with prawns with white rice and veg. All steamed. I think I need to cut out the rice and increase the the veg. BS today was 9.5
Once I figure out what I need to eat to stop the spikes. I will be fine. Looking to take up hill walking this year. Atb Alan

How about swapping the rice for cauliflower rice?
You can make that by grating cauliflower, though I find that messy. The freezer section in most supermarkets has ready grated cauliflower rice in convenient portion sized packs.
