Hiya

I'm a male 41, I was diagnosed last Nov last year. Pretty shocking really, I had the usual signs, thirst, mood swings etc etc..

The doctor has been helpful, he's put me on metaformin, 850mg in the morning and evening-500Mg in the afternoon. The trouble is after a year a i still have high blood sugar, 8.8 after waking, 11.8-2 hours after eating my breakfast. The pains in my arms and legs are getting me down, It's seems to come in waves-some weeks nothing, then bang, awake all night...
When I first was told the doc offered me happy pills, I turned them down as I felt that they would not help-now i'm not so sure.

I just can't seem to get my sugar level down, I've completely changed, fresh fruit, wholmeal bread, I suspect it may be milk that causes my sugar level to rocket.

I've started a log on what food I eat and the reading before and 2 hours after...still.

i'm just felling a little down as with the pains it get I suffer with ED, which has not helped..

Hi trooper.
Welcome to the forum. Have a good look around and ask questions elsewhere when you are ready. There is always someone with an answer.

Good to hear you are starting to keep a food and BG diary, that will help in solving your errant BG problems. High Bg levels when reduced can frequently reverse symptoms and complications of Diabetes. Get them lower and see the difference.

Can you give us an idea of a typical days food intake. We may be able to suggest things that can be of help.

Hi Cugila
One question I would like a reply too is

Can milk cause my blood sugar to rocket, I suspect it is, just that i'm thinking I am going mad.

Plain old Full Fat Milk has on average around 4.7g carbs per 100 ml.
Semi Skimmed has around 5g carbs in a 100 ml.

Not a lot really, I drink Milk frequently in say a 200 ml glass. That is only 10g carbs. However if you are drinking gallons of the stuff at one time, then yes, it could. Work out the quantity and the carb content.

Hi and welcome

Are you having your milk with cereals by any chance? Cereals cause my bloodsugar levels to spike.

Regards

Hi trooper68,

I suppose that you know that the best way to reduce blood glucose levels is to cut back on the starchy carbohydrates that you are eating - i.e. cereals, bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. Doing that usually leads to a quick and dramatic improvement in the blood glucose levels of Type 2s.

Certainly, it's starchy carbohydrates that are more likely to be causing your problems than milk.

Best wishes - John
