Hi people.
I'm diagnosed type 2 diabetic and on metformin and glycerin tablets.
Tablets don't seem to be effective and diabetes is out of control currently.
The only my Blood Sugars stay at 5 - 8 mmol is by fasting.
For instance, a bowl of cereal and I spike to around 22 mmol.
It's like this with many foods.
Yesterday I was at 12.2 mmol pre meal and ate pasta, bolognese sauce in a tuna bake. Medium sized portion and blood sugar rose to 25.5mmol from 12.2.
I've awoken this morning and Blood sugar has come down in the night from 25.5 ,mmol to 19.8 mmol.
I have to fast and drink water only now and for most of the day, to see Blood Sugars drop below 10.
If I eat, it will spike even more.
I don't see a GP or nurse regularly and since being diagnosed in June, have seen nobody.
My legs are burning, as are my feet and I think diabetes is taking a toll on my body. I have several health issues currently.
I don't know which direction to turn, to get diabetes under control.
Any advice would be most welcome.

Hi @Ashybang and welcome to the forums.

Do you happen to know your hba1c when you were first diagnosed? And is glycerin something like gliclazide?

Have you tried seeing what happens if you reduce the carbs in your meals? Cereal and pasta both have quite a lot of carbohydrate....

But I think you need to see a doctor about your diabetes. I'd suggest ringing your surgery and telling them how high your levels are.

Thank you for your reply.
Apologies it is gliclazide, the tablet I take, along with metformin..
(I'd just taken gtn spray and confused the names.)
I will take your advice and call GP first thing Monday morning and ask for appointment to discuss diabetes.
Yes I agree pasta and cereal are high in carbs, which it seems doesn't help.
My readings have been regularly between 14 and 27 mmol since I was told I'm diabetic, and only drop below if I don't eat and just have water or unsweetened tea.

I'll let you know how I get on with GP appointment......
Thank you once again for advice.

Nor have I! It's a useful benchmark, but not essential. Have a read around here for ideas for delicious meals that don't involve carbs and sugars. This is the start of a fascinating new journey for you.

By all means new journey!

Hello and welcome

I agree with @EllieM that you should see your doctor.

I'm also a T2. T2s have difficulty with carbs. The meals you describe sound quite high in carbs. If I ate them my levels would go through the roof. I manage my diabetes through diet but restricting the level of carbs I eat. Given you are on medication you will need to be careful about reducing carbs so you don't have a hypo.

My suggestion is to keep a diary and measure the amount of carbs and the difference in the levels before a meal and 2 hours after. That will give you a benchmark of what different foods do to your levels. You need to be very cautious when making any changes to your diet because of the gliclazide but having a benchmark should help.

I'm not a doctor- so this is just my suggestion but I really think starting a food diary will help you and your doctor to manage your diabetes.

Good luck and welcome
