I've been looking at the forum for a few weeks, just never got round to registering.
I have suffered from T2 diabetes for 2 1/2 years (ish), but only recently Got a monitor. For the first 18 months managed on diet only but was then put on metformin. After 3 months, the dose was increased and for a shot time my levels were good. THEN I got complacent! I ate lots of stuff I shouldn't and at my yearly check up the nurse wanted to put me on gliclacide (sp?). I told her that my friend who is T1 asked me how I knew what affect certain foods had on me, and at that point she said she would give me a meter, since I would be getting one when I decided to start on my 'new' medication, and she asked me to go for another HBA1C in 2months, to see if it had any effect. Due to go for this mid may. I think that it might be better than it was back in March.
That was when I discovered you all here.
I've read stuff, followed advice (reduced carbs etc) have lost about 5kg and, if my monitor converts using the convertor on the site my test results should come back much better.
Decided it was rude not to join in after having benefitted from reading so much, and wonder if I had had a monitor when first diagnosed if I would have had better control right from the start (according to the dn told that the government advice was not to give out monitors when first diagnosed!!!
