Hello all,
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in February but am really only just getting my head round it all !!
I had some blood tests taken & was waiting for the results so went online to make an appointment with my GP. That was when & how I discovered I had Diabetes , the Doctor had made an appointment for me to see the diabetic Nurse & there it was on my screen , shock wasn't the word. Every thing connected to my diagnoses turned into a complete shambles!
I was literally told to go away & deal with it & come back in 3 months. No blood monitor , very brief diet advice.
Once I had come to terms with it all then I started taking action.
I complained to my surgery about the way I found out & the little amount of help I got etc . ( I at least got a written apology for how the surgery had handled my case )
I asked for blood Monitor & would not take no for an answer ( I am only allowed 50 strips per month so I buy any extras myself)
This week I have finally been granted an appointment with a dietician as after 12 weeks on metaformin I have not lost any weight & my levels are still very erratic. The professionals are worried if they change the medication or swop me to insulin then I will put even more weight on.
Also off to have more blood tests this week to see if my levels have dropped overall.
It is really getting me down but I know I have no choice but to deal with it .
I am sure diet is the key but as a veggie its a little more difficult so will hop over to the diet section to pick up some tips .
I have read a few posts & am shocked to see that so many people have had dreadful experiences with their diagnosis & general treatment & help of their condition . Thank goodness for these wonderful forums !
