This message has just come up on my (moderately ancient) Samsung S10E

After December 13 2025 your dexcom G7 app will no longer function on this device. To continue using the G7 app,you will need a new device. We recommend a phone that can run the latest (IOS, Android) OS version for long term use.

Please refer to the linked dexcom compatibility website for a list of devices currently compatible with dexcom G7 app.

I must admit that I don't want to buy a new phone, I like my old one. I am however tempted to buy an apple so that I can have an apple watch to read my bg without my phone, but I don't want or need an expensive apple watch/phone and I like my current windows laptop.

Any recommendations (apple or not). Do dexcom really mean this? Can I just keep using my old phone?

Also using a tandem tslim.....

I have just requested a Dex Com one + trial as I’m exploring having glucose readings on my Apple Watch. Sorry this isn’t answering your question but I’m hoping I don’t straight away end up wrestling with out dated tech. Can I ask how old your phone is Ellie?

Personally I would be updating my phone. The most up to date I could buy. My dad of ninety two has just bought himself an I phone sixteen because he doesn’t want to fall behind. The older the items become the less likely they will keep up to date with our very important health tech. That is the world we are now living in. I’m afraid phones are a necessity now not a luxury.

Dexcom G7 is a joke! This is their latest excuse for their product to give incorrect readings and loss of signal.

Hi,

Up front I use Libre.
Dexcom I trialed & found just as good, for balance.

But my 6 year old Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ keeps giving me a battery warning suggesting it’s on the way out.
Yet, I don’t see any dimishing in battery life. & I’ve been using it more than I usually do the past month?

The past year or so with an old Galaxy watch 4 I got cheap because there now is an “8?” Then at the beginning of the year 2025.) there was was an update to the 4 that gives all the bells & whistles the G-watch 7 has??

Are you sure it isn’t Samsung playing “built in obsolescence?”

If you want to go Apple Watch? (I’m not against Apple.. Typing on an iPad.)
You could also look into cheaper older Apple Watches that suite your personal budget most the time the latest whatever it is just has a slightly better camera.. :p

April 2019...

6 years is a long time in a Mobile Phone life. If you do end up buying a new phone, I would suggest getting something like a Google Pixel phone. I bought a brand new Google Pixel 8 phone last year for £300 from Ebay and it has guaranteed OS updates until at least October 2030 (and even when the OS no longer updates, it's usually about another 2 - 3 years before apps stop working on it.)

The phones keep going, it’s the apps that are the problem. Apps are being updated constantly and will not work on older phones. I bought a iphone 16 . I agree with @becca59 on this “phones are a necessity now not a luxury.”

It likely is true that you won’t be able to use your old phone beyond the date given, unfortunately Apps have to be updated to work with new software which means they then won’t work with older software. It’s a shame but most phones only will have updates for 5-7 years before they stop giving them.

If you do want an Apple phone (I don’t know much about any other phones) the iPhone 16e is the cheapest iPhone and it does everything that you’d need it to do and will have updates for at least the next 6 years. It’s still not cheap though you’re looking at £599 GBP.
