@bulkbiker I've just seen this thread.
My IR has dramatically improved since I've reduced my fat. Saturated fat the most. I'm not hugely low-fat but don't buy cheese, cream or nuts anymore. I rely on a low carb pizza occasionally and nutty treats every other month, money allowing.
I've been told by diabetic unit my insulin is in keeping with the norm and my hba1c is now at last 48 and lowering.
This is all months before my bariatric surgery date.
I'm losing on average 2lb per week.
I was shocked at my hba1c but knew something good when weight loss is consistant and using dramatically less insulin to control my 4s 5s and 6s. Something just changed. Fat removal is only dietary change. Mostly chicken skin, bacon rind, cheese, nuts and cream no longer eaten.
Have you tried reducing yours to see if any weight loss?

Hi Vicky..
Bit surprised by your question to be honest.. on this journey and not worrying about my fat intake I have so far shed 112 pounds in weight. I am about 14 pounds off my ideal target and am happy to take some time to get there. From my point of view keto works amazingly well for me so I don't think I'll be changing anything soon.

Could it not be just the fact, everyone is different?
The human body is a science but not all male bodies work the same. Women's neither.
I respect specialists but even dr bernstein didnt know everything and agrees he's still learning. As us all.
Completely agree.... everyone is different but I wasn't the one making definitive statements.

I'm just delighted I've at last found a way to lose weight. I tried your diet but no weight loss for me. I've been desperate for weight loss for a decade. Well before insulin. I'm not really sure why things have changed for me. Not exactly.
Of course it works for you. It's obvious. I admire your loss and now more active lifestyle.
For everone losing, low carb has been the answer but in different variants. My thyroid problem works better without veg and supplements only. I filled my diet with veg and fat with lower protein but no weight loss. I was constantly ill.
I just feel soooo lucky to be now losing weight, well.
You are one of my inspirations, always will be.
I won't let fat get between our individual dietary needs. ;)
I think I must have slow digestion so fat just slows it too much to be processed correctly? Do you think?

Not everyone on a low carb diet gets "peripheral" IR, though.

Why are you always defensive on your zero carb diet?

I'm not on a zero carb diet.
I don't think I am defensive but just disagreeing with what you have claimed.
I know quite a lot of people in great health on a ketogenic diet so don't think you are correct about the health risks.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean about
I would have expected such comments from you
and I obviously don't get PIR so your copy paste is not 100% correct.

I eat the way I do because for me it controls my Type 2 to the extent I don't exhibit any symptoms or have any of the markers.
I don't however claim to be "cured" and have no desire to go back to the eating habits that got me here int the first place.
Why would I?

Why would you make the statement you passed a OGTT when you now state you are controlling and not have reversed it? That's clearly misleading people into false hope. Just saying...
Because I passed the OGTT but don't consider myself "cured" nor do I think it useful to claim such..
I don't think that's so hard to understand is it?
Where have I been misleading? I even published the blood sugar results every 15 minutes.

Hi @ickihun ,

There could actually be another factor with regards to the removal of fat from your diet & an easier control of BS resulting in your lower A1c? The "pizza effect?" Slower digestion (due to the fat content.) possibly would be needing a "split bolus" to counteract &'can still go "rogue"..?
Your new menus may just be more sympathetic to the working profile of your prescribed Novorapid with what you are now bolusing for? Thus giving better control for you with how you time the bolus..
I can't comment on weight loss.. But with regards to BS managment.. ;) It's as good a guess as any.
We're both insulin dependant. Just putting my view on your fantastic results...

Hey @ickihun !! Seems you're a bunch like me. Fat is ok but in modest quantities and lower saturated and not too many nuts. As you know my diet percentage wise is 80% fat but not anything tonbe called high fat. An avocado, an ounce of nuts and some mayo and olive oil. One ounce of cheese. ( just because I like it and it doesn't seem to effect my weight ). Hardly gobbling fat. Keeping protein moderate but l as carbs than you. I don't tolerate them at all and they make me hungry. Even Brussels sprouts!! Apparently I was born to be keto lol.

Happy to hear you're doing so well!!! When is surgery?

I eat a keto diet because not only does it control my bs but I thrive on it. I prefer the higher fat foods over carbs. They taste better and sustain my energy and bs. Long before I was diabetic I thrived on vlc. It has IMPROVED my health. Carbs make me sick. We are all different.

I also believe carbs and sugar feed cancer and disease. Of course just my opinion. We all have our own beliefs and I don't think BB has ever shoved his down anyone's throat. Just gave his experience and he's made tremendous success with it. Why wouldn't he share ?

Fat can slow stomachs...my stomach/colon does not like large amounts of fat or meat at all. However for slowing colon down mine also dislikes cereal, pasta, bread and rice...

My colon is just narrowly above paralysed status and the only thing that travels well is mushy veg... crustless quiche.. etc...

Yes. Definately effecting my acid tum thou. I'm back to gaviscon. Once again must have been fat slowing my digestion so less acid produced?
Lchf is more indigestion problem friendly, for me. Just no weight loss which i desperately need. Maybe once ideal weight in the future lchf would be ok then.
Hoping to drop novarapid all together after bariatric surgery. (diabesity specialist is trying for me.) Just on 15units per meal at mo and reduced my basal yesterday too as i was keep having a hypo in sleep then liver dumping so no liver blocking til it settles down.

I have once every few months boiled onion to change flavour in stir-fry but not tomatoes unless the very very rare piece of pizza from kids. Just to be sociable ;)
Scallions ( green onions, the green parts only ) give me th eonion flavor without the indigestion

So many posters have helped me. You. Youve guided my insulin reduction with confidence. @bulkbiker has inspired me into realising that I can lose weight, no matter how long no weight has been lost. His dietary ideas have been brilliant.
I've have a poster who still writes to me at home who lost loads on lchf and still feels I shouldnt need bariatric surgery because she has kept her weight off for years without surgery.
I still wish I was a one to lose on lchf but fat just had other ideas!
