Help! I have so much weight to lose

@Kristinak thanks for all of that. I will re-read it when I have enough mental energy to take it all in - I have just got back from a very enjoyable but tiring holiday. Yes I believe my own suppressed childhood memories have caused my depression and weight gain too. Sorry this is such a short reply, I just wanted to thank you as soon as I was able.
Very good I look forward to hearing from you. Thank. kk

Since I am trying to stay awake as long as I can I am going to post my steps for the last almost 2 weeks a little early, hopefully that will keep me busy for a while

holiday
Sat 3891 this was a part day because I was an idiot and forgot to take Pedro on holiday with me!!!!! I remembered when we were 12 miles from home and my wonderful husband insisted on going back for him! I have a packing list which is so old it has 'pesetas' on it, but that translates to dollars for this trip, so it still works.....except I forgot to translate 'Beedrill' - (one of my son's toys from many years back) to Pedro. Pedro has now been added to the updated list so I won't forget him again. Also I was too lazy to adjust Pedro's body clock, so his 'day' ended at 7.00 pm.., which caused me one or two problems when I was trying to do a certain amount of steps per day.

When we used to go on holiday with our sons we always went to a city and visited a football stadium, saw a match too if there was one. So before this holiday our eldest said 'I suppose there will be no sports stadia for you this time Mum?' Then he had this idea........He printed out a list of English Football stadia with their capacity and club name etc....the list is a little old, so some of the numbers the grounds cater for may well be wrong, but he still came up with a good game to motivate me to walk lots on holiday.... I choose a football ground by its crowd capacity and then walk the same (or greater) number of steps so I can tell him which ones I have 'visited' when I get home. Now I would have liked to have managed to walk from around the 7th biggest (Anfield 45,522) straight down the list. When I was young (27) we went on holiday to Paris for 10 days and walked at least 10 miles every day (that's 10 miles by road, not including the extra walking round shops, parks, museums etc.) so I wanted to get back to that level (yes, I know...I'm more than twice the age and weight I was then) When it became obvious that plan was a little ambitious, I chose 2 big grounds which meant a lot to me, and just did as much as I could the other days. So...

Sun 40685 steps - Elland Road (39460) 12th biggest. I could have chosen Everton for this, 10th biggest, but Elland Road means so much more to me because....I'm a Leeds fan.....and I have only ever been there twice - once in 2003-4 (not a good season to watch Arsenal play my team!) and once for my 50th birthday. The family said I could choose anything I wanted, so I chose a weekend in Leeds and we watched them play Swindon Town.
Mon 26302 steps - Carrow Road, Norwich(26034) 32nd biggest
Tues 25803 steps - Craven Cottage, Fulham(25700) 33rd
Weds 25579 steps - Darlington (25500) 34th
Thurs 13456 steps - Oxford United (12500) 63rd - this was a difficult day because we went on a coach trip to Cape Cod, so I couldn't find much time to walk.
Fri 42908 steps - Villa Park (42788) 8th biggest. I had problems reaching this target, we got back to the hotel and I had 2 big blisters and needed 6000 more steps before 7 pm, so I walked round and round a very big pool and fountain in the rain until I had done enough steps. This ground means a lot to me because it was where I saw my first ever Division 1 match (in 1975) and is also the first time I got injured at a footie match. (Collided with a metal bar again, but this time it was soft tissue damage below the ribs - spectacular bruising.) That day is still one of my favourite days ever because standing with the Leeds fans was just amazing.
Sat 20030 - just all the steps we could manage on the day we flew home!

OK so that's the walking bit of the holiday covered, I just wish I had done so well with the food - and drink - element of it.

Hi welcome back.
Did you realise that you didn't apologise or beat yourself up when you said you ate more carbs.
Just a little observation that you have come a long way from starting on here :)

How was the holiday x

I have beaten myself up big time, I just didn't have the energy to tell you all about it! The problem is I don't really like protein. I have tried so hard over the past 6 + years to persevere with it, but it has always been tough for me. My taste buds have changed a bit, but there I was in USA and I had thought that I would do what I always do on holiday which is eat very little and walk lots. This usually means I lose 4 - 7lbs and 1 - 2lbs the week after, then it stops and weight loss becomes more difficult than it was before the holiday. So this time, during the first whole day there I made a conscious decision to eat more(3 biggish meals a day, no snacks) and still walk lots, to see if that would be a better way of doing things. Now to eat more protein would have been horrid for me and I was on holiday, so I thought a week eating a few/ alot more carbs would be OK just this once....and it may have been OK...if it hadn't been for the fact that we went on a walking tour and I was chatting to the tour guide whilst waiting for the rest to come out of a church....and we got talking about.....beer. Now when a tour guide mentions a long list of different beers to me.....well it becomes a 'to do list'. So that's why I am cross with myself because I really should have known better. Anyway it got to Thursday and I had just one more left to try, I couldn't find it in Boston, but on the way back from Cape Cod, we stopped at Plymouth and had just 5 minutes before the coach was due to leave and there it was on a chalk board inside a bar....Sam Adams Rebel IPA 6.5%ABV $4.99 . So, this was the week when I forgot that I drink very little nowadays and that actions have consequences. Tomorrow is not looking too promising right now.

Oh, hubby is finding some photos for me to post, but it may take a while.....

Hi Connie, thanks. I'll try to sort out the photos later today. it's sort of good to be home, but Boston was lovely. I may need to spend a couple of days in bed now and I'm not looking forward to being weighed tomorrow!

My fasting BG this morning was 6.5, so not as bad as it could have been. I expect my liver has been so busy dealing with the beer that it hasn't bothered with a liver dump, so my BG's might get worse as my diet gets better.

Nice to have you back Zand! Looking forward to seeing the photos.
Hey- if you can't throw caution to the wind a little on holiday, when can you?! ;)

@Kristinak Ok, thanks again for your post. Yes, I have started using myfitnesspal and will get back to it when I have fully recovered from my holiday. I find it helps me to drink enough water as well as to watch what I eat.
Leptin - yes, that's something else I need to think about, I have just googled and printed out a couple of articles about leptin and low carb diets.
Oxygen - yes this makes sense too since I have been healthier now that I eat more raw veg and fruit. I haven't heard of the food grade hydrogen peroxide before though.
Statins - no worries here, I have refused them
Thanks again for taking the time and effort to post so much advice for me. You have given me lots to think about

Loved it! Here is one of my favourites!

OK so how do I post these **** photos? Told you I was a Luddite. Can I go back to America now? I don't like it here. It's cold and miserable and hubby's cross with me 'cos of the photos and I can't find my son's car keys or anything else for that matter. (Yes I know they are his keys and he lost them, but he's the one who is going to have to help me with the photos if you lot can't so I thought it might be good to try to help him first.) Aaaaaarrrggghhhhh!!!! I don't like today much.

Hi Zand, don't panic. First of all you need to get the photos so they are no bigger than 600 x 450 pixels in size. This is so they come out at a convenient size on here. You can do this in Windows Picture Viewer or a free downloadable picture editor - I use Irfanview.

Then when drafting your post hit the middle green 'Upload a file' box and choose the photos you want to upload - there may be a limit on the forum software for how many you can upload at once, I don't know - and it asks you whether you want the whole picture or just a thumbnail that we have to click to see the full Monty.

Good luck, if you get stuck just ask.

The Christian Science Reflecting Pool. This is the one I walked round in the rain when I needed 6000 extra steps.

Right these next two are for Pipp and Totto. Look, I tried, I really did, but when the weather was good there was walking to do, honest. Now I would have been quite happy swimming in the rain but....they wouldn't let me.
