HELP I'm scared! Steroids.

Steroids blew my sugars out of the water a few weeks ago, I was taking them for exactly the same as you, same dose too. My sugars were imposisble to control, no matter what I injected I seemed to get nowhere and hypos were a distant memory. I felt even rougher than I did before and couldn't see properly because my sugars were so high. I kept testing for ketones but had nothing more than a trace. Luckily they settled within 24hrs of stopping so be prepared for that as you'll need to be careful on that day. I'm never going to take them again.

another night in a+e with blood sugars +33.3 and ketones +++. Then had to wait 3 1/2hrs for taxi home cos of the snow!! Not a great night/morning!! I'll be glad when im off these things.

aawwww paula, not again,
thinking of you and hope u are soon well :)

Thanks totsy.
Took my bs a minite ago and its 15.9 so not too bad i suppose.
Going to bed earlt tonight for a well earned rest and hope things are better in the morning.

After 1 wk of steroids and 3 trips to A+E, I am now OFF these horrible steroids!!!
Took my last lot this morning so Im not out of the woods yet, at least I dont have to take anymore. SO relieved :D They've made me feel **** and sent my bs off the scale. but, maybe they saved my life. So, if i have to I'd probably take them again - only if I have to. Thank God it's over for now.
Thank you all for your support

Paula have you had the pneumococcal vaccine? I swear that's what stopped me going down the tubes for good. I just had a dreadfully awfully hideously bad chest infection for 3 months instead of progressing to pneumonia etc. And it only took so long to sort out because they had me on the one type of antibiotic that my infection turned out to be resistant to

Hi moonstone
Yes had the vaccine a few years ago, although it hasnt stopped me being in itu a while ago. They said I had a 10% chance of survival, but did survive so maybe it worked. I have brittle asthma so am always getting chest infections. Off to the drs today to see how Im doing.

UPDATE

They have put me back on the steroids and antibiotics for another week. Great! Another week of feeling c**p and lousy bs control. Oh well, c'est la vie!

Paula......that's a bu**er !!

Anyway, come on girl.......it will get better. :D

I stuck it for months with rubbish readings.......they are all back to normal now. :D

Have a good Christmas .....in moderation of course .......

Yep, just have to put up with it and enjoy Christmas.
I hope they will forgive me when I have my hba1c in Jan

Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a peaceful new year :D

Paula.
Just to maybe put your mind at rest a bit, when my levels were in the 24+ for much of the time I too fretted over what would happen to my HbA1c.......at the end of 3 months of this it had only gone up by 2/10 th's of one % ......I was quite surprised.

I think it helped that wherever I could I tried to keep the levels down as much as I could, the lower numbers at times counteracted the really high ones. Hence the not so bad HbA1c. :D

Hi everyone and Happy new year!
Well, I ended up in hosp Christmas night and got out on wed. Bs only got back to normal today. Boy was I glad to see a 5.2! :D Still feeling pretty rough and very tired but getting there. If I definitely have to go on steroids again, I will, But gonna try avoid them like the plague.
Anyway, thanks all for the help.

Hi Paula.
Happy New Year to you.....you sound like you need it !

No point asking you if you had a great Christmas.......Hospital at the best of times is no fun. Better luck for the next one.

Paula - please don't take any notice of him. He is a truly nasty individual and will be deleted and banned very soon...

Please dont worry. I didnt take him seriously.
Of coursr I will take steroids again if needed - only if definately needed tho.
I saw my DSN today. Despite all my extremely high Bs my hba1c only went up to 8.2.

Re offensive comment - this is the 2nd one. I do seem to get them dont I? :)

Paula
