Personally I'd suggest a very low carbohydrate/ketogenic diet.
When you start cutting carbs back drastically the initial weight loss is water.
I'd imagine that would help a lot with oedema.
Maybe combine that with some time restricted eating as well.

I had oedema for years prior to diagnosis - it was steadily getting worse. I was also getting a lot bigger and had put on around 55lbs in a few years. I sorted my blood glucose out fairly quickly through a keto (around 20g carbs/day) diet and weight loss followed on - somewhere over 60lbs gone now. The oedema got much better as soon as my sugar went back to normal level - it did take about two years to go (almost) completely. Feet are nearly two sizes smaller.

I still can have some swelling if I wear tight socks - I've found Gentle Grip socks to work really well. On the basis of my experience, keto is what I'd recommend, but I really cannot say if this will work for everyone.

Welcome to the forums.

Can I just double check, is your wife a T2 diabetic? (The advice might be slightly different if she has a different type of diabetes).

Hello @Julie Marshall-Jones.
To be able to give us better understanding, in addition to needing to know your wife’s type of diabetes it would help to know if she is on any medication. That would help us to be able to give specific, relevant advice.
Some further info about location of the oedema would also be useful. To many, the term oedema relates to feet and ankle swelling, sometimes abdomen, too. Is this what you mean.
